Overall Job Objective

Summary

Under general supervision, the Child and Family Therapist conducts behavioral health interventions with juvenile and adult individuals, families, or facilitates couples therapy sessions to address a variety of mental health concerns. Active knowledge of the impact of substance abuse on the family system and assists in the development and implementation of behavioral health prevention and community enrichment programs with the department.

Minimum Qualifications

Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or Social Work and must be licensed as a LMFT, LPC or LCSW . Working knowledge of substance abuse is preferred. Must have a work understanding of HIPPA requirements. Applicant must be proficient in conducting diagnostic evaluations and developing treatment plans in a therapist/counselor role and have the ability to provide psychotherapy services using various therapeutic modalities. Must be a person of highly stable character with a proven ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality, work a flexible schedule, and work independently. Must possess a valid Arizona drivers license and be able to meet the Communitys insurance carrier requirements. Must complete and pass an extensive background check.

Examples of Duties

  • Conducts diagnostic evaluations to assess clients' mental health needs as consistent with training.
  • Creates treatment plans based on client assessments and presenting concerns
  • Develops and implements behavioral health interventions and conducts individual, family, or couples therapy sessions to address a variety of mental health concerns. Including providing anger management skills, coping, and social skills and skills to reduce high-risk behaviors or physical aggression. Psychoeducation on Mental Health and Substance.
  • Provides youth and family counseling services, responding to calls for emergency intervention services as needed.
  • Coordinates care with other clinical staff, child/adult welfare agents, and any outside providers as needed.
  • Develops and helps implement prevention and outreach programming to increase awareness on community focused (and international crisis level) mental health and substance abuse issues.
  • Facilitates various therapeutic groups with clients.
  • Participates in a variety of training conferences regarding behavioral health/substance abuse.
  • Works effectively with other local area behavioral health/social service agencies to coordinate services for members and their families..
  • Maintains strict confidentiality regarding all matters involving clients both during and off work hours.
  • Utilizes routine clinical and administrative supervision of all clinical work
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Other Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of behavioral health counseling (including but not limited to, behavior modification), as well as knowledge of social services in a rural community context.
  • Knowledge of the behavioral actions and physical manifestations of mental illnesses and drug and/or alcohol abuse.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with community youth, community members, community department employees, law enforcement personnel, legal representatives, State/Federal agencies, and a variety of institutions and facilities.
  • Skill in counseling individuals, families, and small groups regarding a variety of substance abuse and related behavioral health issues/problems.
  • Skill in identifying resources for referring clients needing programs/services not available at Ak-Chin Indian Community.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to work with children and families.
  • Ability to express ideas in a clear and precise manner, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to work a rotate being on-call crisis response schedule.
