Overall Job Objective

Summary

Under general supervision, establishes an early childhood classroom environment using developmentally appropriate practices. The Teacher will plan hands on age appropriate lessons and activities to ensure appropriate social/emotional, physical, cognitive and language development.
Minimum Qualifications

Must possess an Early Childhood Education (ECE) certificate and experience equivalent to two (2) years full time working with young children in a classroom setting. An Associates or Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Child Development or Early Childhood Education is preferred. Must have a valid Arizona Driver's License and be able to meet the Community's insurance carrier requirements. Must also be First Aid and CPR certified, or be able to obtain within 90-day introductory period. Must complete and pass an extensive background check.
Examples of Duties

  • Develops daily lesson and activity plans for preschool/daycare students (1 to 5 years old); develops and provides small group activity sessions to facilitate delivering and understanding planned lesson and/or activity; plans and implements special events and parties
  • Manages daycare environment, including providing corrective measures/discipline as needed or appropriate for age group; creates an environment so that children are comfortable, relaxed, and involved in activities as they discover acceptable ways to show emotions.
  • Maintains records and prepares required reports.
  • Supervises and directs the work of the Teacher's Aide(s) and parent volunteers.
  • Performs daily maintenance, cleaning, and sanitizing of child care areas, supplies, equipment, and material(s).
  • Promotes playground safety and developmentally appropriate outdoor play and supervises children on field trips.
  • Dispenses medications as instructed.
  • Purchases both stock and special supplies as requested/directed, submitting all receipts to supervisor for approval/payment.
  • Eats meals/snacks with children in order to model proper manners and nutritional practices.
  • Assists the Cultural Resources/Language staff in providing culturally diverse activities for the children, such as dancing, singing, rhythmic music and story time; assists the Diabetes staff by encouraging proper nutrition and regular physical activity.
  • Observes strict confidentiality guidelines regarding children and families; reports suspected abuse/neglect/maltreatment and other social service related incidents to the appropriate agency, professional and Manager.
  • Attends and participates in all scheduled staff meetings, workshops, in-service trainings regarding child development/early education. Attends parent meetings as needed or required.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of general child development/early education principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of age appropriate activities, interests, and behavior.
  • Knowledge of appropriate sanitizing, cleaning and disinfecting techniques.
  • Knowledge of proper food and medication handling techniques.
  • Skill in developing and implementing age appropriate lesson plans and activities.
  • Skill in applying appropriate emergency medical care, including CPR.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with preschool age as well as high school students, staff, faculty and parents.
  • Skill in working effectively in an environment subject to high noise, interruptions, and quickly changing priorities.
  • Skill in quickly responding to dynamic situations requiring effective communication and appropriate intervention methods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions, policies and procedures, rules and regulations and guidelines.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding the pre-school/daycare children and their families at all times.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment, including a photocopier, fax machine, typewriter, calculator, telephone, computer, TV, DVD player, camcorder, digital camera, tape recorder, CD player and overhead projector to fulfill job requirements.
