DEFINITION

Youth Services Lead Associate (YSLA), under the supervision of the Youth Services Supervisor (YSS) and the Program Director, is responsible for providing services to Metropolitan Area Advisory Committee on Anti-Poverty (MAAC) youth and the community. Services will be in keeping with agency goals, objectives, mission, and style and provided within a team framework. Associates are responsible for working with the team in developing team goals and objectives and in meeting those goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administer security for all youth participants and provide mentorship to youth care.
  • Organize workshops, activities for age-appropriate youth and assist with educational, clinical and leisure activities designed your youth.
  • Working with youth who have experienced various traumas between the age range of 13-17 years of age, including youth with serious illnesses, addictions, disabilities, pregnancy, sexual/mental/physical abuse or who have been neglected.
  • Communicate service coordination information and events through utilization of communication logs and debriefs as set in the protocols and procedures of the services.
  • Provide crisis intervention, during working hours and as needed after work hours.
  • Monitor resident requirements and analyze all physical and emotional needs.
  • Maintain work according to rules, programmatic procedures, policies, and standard licenses.
  • Administer all residents and monitor whereabouts for all and manage appropriate behavior.
  • Manage medications, if necessary and ensure appropriate usage as per requirement.
  • Monitor admissions of all visitors into the Facility and ensure appropriate privacy for all residents and staff.
  • Ensure neat and clean facility and maintain optimal level of hygiene.
  • Coordinate with team and supervise Youth Service Associates (YSA).
  • Collaborate with various resources and assist support the plans for various services for youth.
  • Plan and supervise efficient recreational activities for residents.
  • Maintain and update all resident files and prepare daily logs.
  • Administer and process resident intake and discharge.
  • Maintain positive relationships with community, including law enforcement, child welfare services, schools, neighbors, and service providers.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy standards of service-partner protected health information and other applicable information and material in accordance with agency and center polices, and applicable regulations and laws including HIPAA.
  • Participate in implementing agency's resource development plan as appropriate.
  • Sort and put away donations, as necessary.
  • Maintain programs space and vehicle cleanliness and safety.
  • Availability to workday, evening, and overnight shifts.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Knowledge of and Ability to:

  • Able to work with potentially homeless, runaway, unaccompanied minors, and exploited youth.
  • Able to work in a very diverse setting with people of all backgrounds, culture, and sexual orientation.
  • Excellent time management skills; organized and able to prioritize.
  • Able to organize and manage large amounts of files, schedules, dates, and information.
  • Self-directed and able to work without supervision.
  • Ability and comfortable with building personal relationships and dedicated to helping others.
  • Able to lift and carry 25 lbs.

Physical Qualifications:

  • Working in a residential setting.
  • Must be willing to develop working knowledge of trauma-informed care and dual diagnosis treatment.
  • Experience working in trauma and dual diagnosis programs preferred.
  • Motivated to take on additional community involvement projects and solve problems.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with multiple cases.
  • Empathetic and supportive with mentorship and leadership skills.
  • Flexible this is 24 hours - 7 days a week program. (Available to work evenings, overnight, weekends and holidays)

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION

  • Supervisory experience a plus
  • Bilingual Spanish-English speaking
  • First Aid and CPR Certified preferred.

HEALTH STATUS

Must have a physical examination, TB clearance and a drug screen by a doctor/clinic designated by MAAC as well as immunization records for influenza*, pertussis and measles as required by state and federal regulations prior to the first day of employment.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this class, an employee is regularly required to stand, walk and sit, talk or hear both in person and by telephone, uses hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls, reach with hands and arms. An employee also is regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl, climb or balance and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Mental Demands

While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret information; analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret people and situations; use basic math; learn and apply new information or skills; work under intensive deadlines and interact with MAAC management, administrators, staff, teachers, parents, family members, children and others encountered in the course of work.

BACKGROUND CLEARANCE

All positions are subject to a background/education check, DMV check, NSOR, exclusion and debarment checks prior to hire and periodically throughout employment as required by various funding sources.

Note: California Start law requires background criminal checks on anyone who works in a licensed childcare facility who is not a client. Must have or obtain a current criminal background check clearance, signed criminal record statement, and signed Acknowledgement to Report Child Abuse form prior to the first day of employment.

TRANSPORTATION

Must have and maintain a valid California Drivers License, daily use of a personal, insured vehicle, and have and maintain a motor vehicle driving record acceptable to MAACs insurance carrier. Incumbents will be enrolled in the California DMV Pull Program.
