POSITION TITLE: Payroll Technician DIVISION: Business/Operations
WORK YEAR: 12 Months DEPARTMENT:Payroll
LOCATION: CES SALARY SCHEDULE: Support Services- $18.49-$19.33 Depending on experience/education
DEFINITION:
The Payroll Technician performs clerical and accounting duties of a complex nature in preparing, adjusting, processing and verifying District payrolls. Performs job related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Prepares, inputs, and processes payroll requisitions for additional or special pay.
2. Balances payroll and check processing, disbursements and other biweekly jobs, e.g. Arizona retirement forms, garnished checks.
3. Audits insurance reports and makes corresponding adjustments and payments.
4. Operates terminal daily to correct and retrieve payroll and voluntary deduction data; provides information to employees and others as authorized and requested.
5. Initiates requests for cancellations/reissues of payroll warrants.
6. Processes personnel action request forms, e.g. new hires, job changes, terminations, calculations, and contract adjustments as needed.
7. Initiates journal entries to distribute payroll expense retroactively and to correct budget coding errors.
8. Reconciles biweekly tax deposits, savings bonds deposits and monthly insurance premium statements.
9. Interprets, reconciles, and posts District and county generated reports.
POSITION TITLE: Payroll Technician
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or GED.
2. Two years of direct payroll experience.
3. Ability to compute and enter data in computer terminal with accuracy.
4. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
5. Ability to operate calculator and type with proficiency.
6. Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
7. Knowledge of federal and state tax regulations as applicable to payroll.
8. Ability to interpret District employee handbooks.
