STARTING HOURLY RATE: $12.51 - $13.08 (PLACEMENT DEPENDS ON EDUCATION AND SIMILAR EXPERIENCE HELD)

DEFINITION:
The Child Care Assistant is responsible for overseeing the daily program of activity plans for children in assigned age groups in the Child Care Center (CCC) and for maintaining a safe, well-adjusted and healthful environment. Performs job-related duties as assigned. [Note: This jobs continuation is dependent upon renewal of grant funding]

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Directs daily program of activities for children in assigned age groups. Completes progress reports, sets skill goals and chooses age-appropriate toys and tools for developmental learning.
2. Assists and provides direction to high school student participants with hands-on CCC training.
3. Maintains daily records on children attending the CCC.
4. Maintains CCC in an orderly, appealing and clean condition.
5. Insures all supplies, equipment and materials used are in a safe, sanitary, and non-hazardous condition.
6. Assists in serving and storing food for meals and activities.
7. Adheres to state regulations and requirements.
8. Notifies CCC Director of suspected illnesses, child abuse, neglect behavior problems, other concerns and parent conference requests.
9. Provides assistance to children in CCC as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Be at least 18 years of age.
2. High school diploma or GED.
3. Twelve months experience as a volunteer in a child care role or employment as a teacher caregiver aide.
4. First Aid or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certified including CPR certification required within 30 days of employment and maintained current.
5. Must pass a Tuberculosis (TB) test prior to employment and annually while employed.
6. Possess a valid Maricopa County Food Handlers card.
7. Good command of the English language and can effectively demonstrate in both oral and written forms.
