POSITION TITLE: | Instructional Assistant, ESS | DIVISION | Instructional Services |
WORK YEAR: | 9 Months | DEPARTMENT: | ESS |
LOCATION: | Self-contained classrooms in various schools | SALARY SCHEDULE: | Starting at $14.49 through $15.15 depending on experience and education. |
DEFINITION: The Instructional Assistant, ESS assists with supervising special education students during education program activities and in extra-curricular functions. Performs job related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Monitors ESS students in the classroom and during non-instructional activities including lunch, bus arrival/departure, free time, etc.
2. Assists with implementation of behavior management techniques.
3. Assists with maintaining the point system program.
4. Assists in group and/or individual instructional activities as requested by the teacher.
5. Provides instructional activity assistance to individual students and/or for small groups of students as requested by the teacher.
6. Assists teacher with room and instructional materials preparation.
7. Types, copies, and distributes instructional materials as requested by the teacher.
8. Monitors after-school, lunch and in-school detention.
9. Maintains individual student folders/binders with discipline referrals and point sheets.
10. Completes/updates daily student point sheets and prepares weekly graphs.
11. Participates as part of students weekly team.
12. Escorts students between classes, to ISS and to other designated areas as required.
13. Participates in related programs [e.g., Medicaid in the Public Schools reimbursement program (MIPS)]
14. Administers medications, under doctors orders and with parental permission.
POSITION TITLE: INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT, ESS
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School diploma or G.E.D.
2. Meets all federal and state educational and testing requirements.
3. Ability to understand and relate to special education students, especially students with emotional disabilities and behavior disorders.
4. Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally.
5. Possess current Red Cross first aid certificate and CPR certificate at time of employment, or obtain within the first sixty (60) days of employment.
6. Possess a valid Arizona drivers license.
7. Ability to maintain necessary records.
