    POSITION TITLE: Media Technician DIVISION: Instructional Services
    WORK YEAR: As Assigned DEPARTMENT: Instructional Materials
    LOCATION: Assigned Schools SALARY SCHEDULE: Support Services - GRADE 4

    STARTING HOURLY RATE: $14.49 - $15.15 (PLACEMENT DEPENDS ON SIMILAR EXPERIENCE HELD AND EDUCATION)

    DEFINITION:

    The Media Technician performs instructional media center tasks related to the ordering, receipt, inventory, processing, computer input and access of media materials and equipment. Performs job related duties as assigned.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    1. Assists with the instruction of students and staff regarding proper use of equipment and library materials and resources normally associated with the IMC .
    2. Performs circulation tasks illustrated by, but not limited to, the following: charging, discharging, retrieving, receiving, and scheduling media and library materials, and issuing debt notices for lost or overdue items.
    3. Assists in maintaining calendar, inventories, circulation records; and compiles data for reports.
    4. Composes and types correspondence and reports utilizing computer application and equipment available at the time.
    5. Produces graphics, signs and transparencies; operates and monitors closed circuit TV where applicable.
    6. Assist with processing print and non-print media for circulation; shelves books and other media.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. High school diploma or GED required; 2 years of technical library training is preferred.
    2. Ability to type 40 words per minute.
    3. One year of clerical experience, preferably in a school library/media center setting.
    4. Ability to compose letters using correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
    5. Ability to respond with tact, composure, and courtesy when dealing with others.
    6. Ability to listen well, and communicate effectively with diverse staff members and students.
    7. Ability to learn to operate and trouble shoot a variety of library equipment normally associated with the IMC.
    8. Ability to apply basic math skills.
    9. Ability to acquire a working knowledge of library terminology may be required.
    10. Ability to meet physical demands of position.
