    GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Speech and Language Pathologist shall be responsible for the identification of students whose speech differs to the extent that it calls attention to itself, interferes with communication, or interferes with social adjustment. The Pathologist shall work with students on an individual basis to help reduce the effects of the diagnosed speech or language disorder.

    MAJOR DUTIES:
    1. Screen all incoming students to determine current level of a speech or language handicap.
    2. Conduct diagnostic evaluations.
    3. Communicate with the elementary school Speech and Language Pathologists to exchange information and provide continuity for the student's therapy program.
    1. Obtain proper documentation and signatures prior to the placement of the student in the Speech and Language Pathology Program.
    2. Prepare an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) for each student enrolled only in the Speech and Language Pathology Program and assist in development of IEP's for dual students.
    1. Communicate with parents regarding the student's program in school.
    1. Confer with the regular classroom teacher regarding the student's progress.
    2. Apprise the Exceptional Student Programs Department Chairperson of the program activities on campus.
    3. Confer with resource teachers regarding students receiving dual services.
    4. Communicate with community agencies which provide speech pathology services or which interface with the field of speech pathology.
    5. Schedule students and provide appropriate individual or group therapy to remediate speech and language disorders.
    6. Provide for the transfer (carryover) of good speech to nontherapeutic environments.
    7. Complete all paperwork required by district policy and state and federal law.
    8. Participate in speech pathology staffings and meetings.
    1. Participate in Professional Growth activities such as conventions and workshops.
    2. Perform other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. Possess Arizona Certification for Speech and Language Pathology.
    1. Have a Master's Degree in Speech and Language Pathology.
    1. Possess certification by the American Speech and Hearing Association; or its equivalent.


    SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

    Department Chairperson of the Speech and Language Pathology Program and the Exceptional Student Programs Chairperson of their assigned school(s).

    SUPERVISION GIVEN:

    Supervise aides, interns, and student assistants assigned to the program.
