    I. General Description:

    The New Directions Programs Coordinator is responsible for the educational experiences for all students in the Emotionally Disabled Programs in the Agua Fria Union High School District. The Coordinator is aware of the responsibilities placed on the educational system which result from local community and general society changes and demands; to administer and supervise the facilities and personnel in accordance with those policies and procedures prescribed by the State of Arizona, the Agua Fria Union High School District Governing Board, and the Superintendent. The Coordinator supports the educational philosophy and objectives of the District and provides leadership in developing, achieving, and maintaining the best possible educational program and instructional practices in accordance with the Districts philosophy and objectives. The Coordinator completes special projects covering a wide variety of areas as assigned by the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.

    II. Qualifications:
    1. Minimum of an earned masters degree from an accredited institution, preferably with the completion of the equivalent of one year of graduate work beyond the masters degree; course work must include administration, supervision, and secondary school curriculum.
    2. Valid principal or superintendent certification in the State of Arizona. Required ADE Special Education Certificate in Emotionally Disabled or Cross Categorical.
    3. Minimum of five years of experience in secondary education, at least three of which shall be in the classroom; participation in an administrative internship program and/or successful experience as Assistant Principal desirable.
    4. Minimum of three years of experience working in an ED self-contained program using behavior modification techniques.
    5. Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Card (IVP).
    6. Demonstrated leadership and ability to work effectively with groups and individuals; demonstrated skills in organizing ideas and presenting them with clarity and conciseness; creative and imaginative approach to problem-solving; ability to make sound decisions and withstand pressures.
    7. Certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention, First Aid and CPR.
    8. Such alternatives to the above as the Governing Board and the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
    1. Duties and Responsibilities:
    1. Observes, supervises, and evaluates the performance of teachers and other site personnel.
    2. Develops and recommends teaching strategies and programs for the improvement of instruction.
    3. Provides on site leadership in the areas of curriculum and instruction.
    4. Recommends innovations involving instructional and methodology.
    5. Maintains and continuously evaluates current curricular offerings; develops and recommends curricular innovations; consults, coordinates, and articulates curricular offerings with other Principals and local post-secondary schools.
    6. Assists with the organization and supervision of all evening activities.
    7. Insures adequate supervision of students in the classroom, in the cafeteria and restrooms, on
    8. the campus, and in the surrounding areas.
    9. Supervises all office operations at New Directions.
    10. Helps develop the master schedule of class offerings, staffing, and room assignments; works with the Director of Special Education and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to facilitate appropriate course offerings.
    11. Conducts faculty meetings as needed; shares the responsibility of planning and conducting District-wide faculty meetings; attends meetings, workshops and trainings as required.
    12. Shares the responsibility for the daily attendance and disciplinary needs for students.
    13. Informs the Superintendent of all matters concerning the operations of the school which ultimately may require the Superintendents attention.
    14. Works with the District and site testing coordinators to ensure compliance with all testing requirements.
    15. Provides professional development related to behavior modification, classroom management, and instructional strategies.
    16. Supports the implementation of Professional Learning Communities districtwide according to PLC definitions, District/site established parameters, and non-negotiables.
    17. Collaborates with Educational Services, site principals and teachers to develop, monitor, and adjust interventions and advancement structures that meet the academic needs of the students.
    18. Provides consultation to district ED self-contained programs.
    19. Facilitates CPI training with relevant District staff.
    20. Observes, supervises and evaluates the performance of certified and classified staff assigned to the program.
    21. Responsible to submit required EDP proposal to the Arizona Department of Education on an annual basis.
    22. Reports to the Director of Special Education on matters pertaining to the program.
    23. Informs the Director of Special Education, Assistant Superintendent of Education Services and Superintendent of all emergency and crisis matters concerning the operation of the program.
    24. Works closely with special education chairs and school psychologists on referrals to the program.
    25. Attends all review of placement hearings for all responsible to the New Directions program.
    26. Review and revise the New Directions handbook/intake procedural manual on an annual basis.
    27. Maintains confidentiality of information regarding students, staff, parents and school issues.
    28. Provides a welcoming atmosphere for students, staff, parents and community
    29. Performs responsibilities in an ethical and professional manner.
    30. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Status: Certified/Exempt Administrative Evaluation; Reports to the Director of Special Education and the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services
