    GRADE 14: Starting at $23.84 through $24.93 depending on experience and/or education.

    SUMMARY:

    The Computer Network Technician maintains and supports of the district-wide technology network and special systems, including: data, voice, video, and power systems, wireless local and wide area networks.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    1. Monitors, troubleshoot, upgrade, and repair of data, voice, video, and power systems for District-wide instructional and operational use.
    2. Analyzes and diagnoses network-related problems reported by end-users using Work Order system and IT service management methodologies to ensure quality service levels and resolutions. Works with other District technology support positions to satisfy end-user computing needs.
    3. Supports the department Director and Network Administrators in maintaining inventories, schematics, as-built plans and configurations of networks and components.
    4. Performs system administration functions under guidance from Network Administrators, including firmware and software updates and performance optimization for network infrastructure components.
    5. Serves as a collaborative member of department project teams, implementing and supporting projects, goals, and objectives; with regular reporting of field experiences and recommendations for improvements to systems.
    6. Supports the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and school information; follows Governing Board Policies; performs all other related duties as required or assigned.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:

    High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND 2-year technical certificate in a related field; AND four years of progressively responsible experience supporting Wide Area (WAN) and Local Area (LAN) IP networks and special systems; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

    License and Certification Requirements:

    A valid Arizona State Drivers License is required.
    Network and Special Systems certifications preferred.

    IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    • Skill in maintaining complex network and telecommunication systems.
    • Ability to operate specialized test equipment for wireless and wired networks.
    • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve network issues.
    • Skill in planning, prioritizing, and completing assignments with minimum supervision.
    • Skill in understanding, explaining, and applying relevant rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
    • Skill in researching and compiling data for reports and technical documents.
    • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and procedures.
    • Ability to type and enter data with speed and accuracy.
    • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to provide excellent customer experiences, including but not limited to interacting tactfully and courteously with the public.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

    Work is performed in District facilities and schools in all weather conditions. May be required to climb ladders, crouch, work in confined spaces, and lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
