    PXU City Small School Principal

    PXU City is an innovative, all independent study high school where the city is the classroom. Students can engage in learning in any of our portfolio of schools, their home, their local community or in locations throughout the city, with the ability to take a mixture of in-person and virtual classes. Additionally, students have the flexibility of scheduling classes to accommodate internships, work, or family responsibilities.

    The PXU City Principal will spend Year 1 planning and preparing for the launch of this new school. Essential functions during this time will include:

    Partnering with the Portfolio Management team to plan, launch, and build the school to full enrollment.

    Leading marketing and recruitment efforts to enroll students.

    Collaborating with district leadership to advocate at the state level for changes to outdated systems that restrict flexibility and innovation.

    Partnering with divisions and sister schools to develop seamless systems and processes that allow students to access courses and supports across campuses.

    Leading a team to develop curriculum and content specific to PXU City students that broadens students understanding of and engagement in the city, as well as creates an opportunity for cohort experiences.

    Creating partnerships with local municipalities, colleges and universities, businesses, non-profits, and other key partners to create touch down locations for PXU City students throughout the city, as well as experiential learning opportunities to increase student knowledge of and engagement in the city.

    Developing internship and work study opportunities for students.

    Developing engagement opportunities for PXU City students to help build school and cohort connectedness.

    Conducting interviews and making recommendations for staff hires as approved.

    Upon the launch of the school in Year 2, the Principal will perform the essential functions of a Small School Principal, ensuring that all components that were developed, or are still in the process of being developed, are implemented with excellence. Essential functions include but are not limited to:

    Ensuring high academic outcomes for all students.

    Maintaining a positive, inclusive and supportive school culture so that everyone can thrive.

    Leading the efforts and supporting the development of all staff.

    Collaborating with CEE staff to ensure equity and access to all learners and staff.

    Partnering with parents, businesses, and community to maintain a healthy and thriving school community.

    Ensuring that all PXU policies are adhered to by all staff members.

    POSITION TITLE: Small Schools Principal DIVISION: Instructional Services
    WORK YEAR: 12 Months DEPARTMENT: Administration

    This position includes a small school principal vacancy for PXU Digital, as well as other small school vacancies that may become available.

    GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Small Schools Principal is responsible for coordinating, and supervising one or more small school site programs designed to provide viable educational options to meet student and parental needs. This includes supervising and monitoring instructional delivery, providing for professional development activities, and monitoring and evaluating.

    MAJOR DUTIES:

    1. Monitor and supervise program implementation at one or more small school sites.

    2. Coordinate the implementation of curriculum, instructional delivery, and support services to meet student needs.

    3. Facilitate communications among district personnel, comprehensive high schools, alternative programs and small school sites, and feeder districts.

    4. Initiate, coordinate, facilitate, and evaluate the delivery of professional development activities to improve instructional delivery in assigned small school sites.

    5. Facilitate district procedures for identification, recruitment, and placement of students into small school sites.

    6. Communicates with parents, community, and industry leaders and other relevant agencies to foster stakeholder partnerships that are aligned with the curricula and technical skill focus of the school.

    7. Implement Governing Board policies and administrative rules, regulations, and procedures.

    8. Performs other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. Possess an Arizona Secondary Principal Certificate.

    2. Hold a Masters Degree.

    3. Ability to work with internal and external staff, community-based organizations and businesses, parents, and students.

    4. Have skill in preparing and presenting oral reports.

    5. Have a minimum of five years of teaching experience at the secondary level.

    6. Have knowledge of evaluation procedures and the selection and supervision of teachers and classified staff.

    7. Have awareness of and experience with the special needs of diverse student population (low socioeconomic, ethnic, exceptional, and linguistic).

    8. Have demonstrated skills in interviewing, speaking, listening, observing, planning his/her time, using group techniques, writing, decision-making, and evaluating.

    9. Have knowledge of and experience in implementing District policies and regulations.

    10. Bilingual Spanish preferred.
