    GRADE 2: Starting at $14.63 through $15.30 depending on experience and/or education.

    SUMMARY:

    The Custodian is responsible for cleaning, housekeeping, maintenance of buildings and facilities to ensure a safe and clean working environment.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    1. Provides quality environmental services to assigned campus/site to maintain a safe and healthy environment for students and staff. Sweeps, mops, and waxes floors; washes windows and walls and places temporary patches for broken windows and broken doors; scours and polishes tile, porcelain, mirrors and metal fixtures; cleans and arranges furniture.
    2. Cleans outside walkways; power washes exterior walls and surfaces; empties trash receptacles.
    3. Cleans, sanitizes, and restocks supplies in locker rooms and restrooms.
    4. Secures buildings by ensuring doors and windows are intact and locked, and lights are out.
    5. Assists in the set up for and clean up after activities.
    6. Replaces damaged ceiling tiles, light bulbs, and tubes; makes minor repairs on fixtures, furniture, and equipment.
    7. Reports damage or necessary repairs to immediate supervisor.
    8. Supports the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and school information; follows Governing Board Policies; performs all other related duties as required or assigned.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:

    High School diploma or GED equivalent; or with at least six months in custodial practices; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

    • Ability to operate custodial equipment such as buffers, scrubbers, and extractors.
    • Ability to read and follow warning labels on supplies, cleaning solutions, and hazardous materials.
    • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and procedures.
    • Skill in planning, prioritizing, and completing assignments with minimum supervision.
    • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to provide excellent customer experiences, including but not limited to interacting tactfully and courteously with the public.
    • Commitment to create and sustain a thriving learning and working environment for students and staff.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
    • Ability to use initiative within organizational policies, procedures and guidelines.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

    Work is performed throughout campuses and District facilities, both indoors and outdoors. Work requires exposure to hot and cold temperatures, potentially dangerous tools and equipment, and hazardous chemicals. Physical ability to perform all of the essential
    functions (e.g. stand, turn, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, lift, push, pull, and climb ladders). May be required to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
