    IRRIGATION TECHNICIAN

    DEPARTMENT: Construction & Facilities SALARY SCHEDULE: Education Support Professional
    LOCATION: DSF WORK YEAR: 12 Months

    GRADE 8:
    STARTING HOURLY RATE: $19.06 - $19.93 (PLACEMENT DEPENDS ON SIMILAR EXPERIENCE HELD AND EDUCATION)

    SUMMARY:

    The Irrigation Technician maintains, repairs, and installs irrigation systems, fixtures, and equipment.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    1. Maintains, installs, troubleshoots, and repairs irrigation fixtures and equipment such as valves, control devices, pumps, mains, laterals, risers, and heads.
    2. Installs irrigation system timers and trains campus personnel on proper usage.
    3. Operates, stocks, and maintains an irrigation repair vehicle.
    4. Works with Construction Project Specialists on the design and installation of new irrigation systems.
    5. Estimates cost of labor and material in relations to job.
    6. Operates trenching and digging equipment.
    7. Maintains supply inventory, requisitions supplies, as necessary. Maintains paperwork (electronic or hard copy) and processing of work orders.
    8. Estimates cost of materials and labor in relation to job.
    9. Maintains assigned equipment, tools, facilities and assigned vehicles.
    10. Makes emergency service calls. Assists District Plumbers and other departments with tasks and projects as needed.
    11. Supports the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and school information; follows Governing Board Policies; performs all other related duties as required or assigned.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:

    High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND three years of experience installing and maintaining irrigation or other general plumbing systems; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

    License and Certification Requirements:

    A valid Arizona State Drivers License is required.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

    Work is performed throughout campuses and District facilities, both indoors and outdoors. Work requires exposure to hot and cold temperatures, potentially dangerous tools and equipment, and hazardous chemicals. Physical ability to perform all of the essential
    functions (e.g. stand, turn, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, lift, push, pull, and, work at heights, climb ladders). May be required to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
