    POSITION SUMMARY
    Performs various support duties related to the functions of the benefits department. The benefits specialist is responsible for assisting with the administration of all benefits and retirement programs. Serves as an information resource regarding benefits procedures and policies. Assists with coordinating district wellness initiatives.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Provides confidential administrative support to internal and external customers by assisting with questions, concerns, and issues related to employee benefits.
    • Greets visitors, receives and distributes telephone calls, messages, and mail.
    • Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information.
    • Performs monthly reconciliation of provider invoices.
    • Conducts new employee/newly eligible benefit orientations to explain options, policies, procedures, and benefits-related information.
    • Tracks new hires/newly eligible employees and follows up to ensure benefit enrollment is completed in the required timeframe.
    • Verifies enrolled dependent certification.
    • Conducts annual dependent verification audit and subsequent ongoing follow up.
    • Trains and assists internal and external customers in computer functions, web portal enrollment, and resources related to employee benefits.
    • Conducts confidential benefits related research.
    • Organizes and maintains data on the District website that provides information regarding benefits and wellness information services.
    • Assists with coordination of wellness activities including creating communications, follow up with site wellness coordinators, and incentive distribution.
    • Schedules appointments, attends committee meetings and arranges for meetings, in-services, and promotional events.
    • Performs quality checks of benefits-related data.
    • Assists employees regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes.
    • Performs related duties as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    • Knowledge of employee benefits administration and applicable laws.
    • Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
    • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
    • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to do detailed mathematical computations.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents and community members.
    • Perform all duties in accordance with Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies.
    • Ability to handle confrontation and conflict without an emotional response.
    • Produce accurate work and complete assignments with minimal supervision.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    1. REQUIRED
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Two years previous administrative, customer service or secretarial experience in business or employee benefits administration
    • Experience with automated accounting or HRIS software systems
    • Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements

      • Previous experience in benefits administration
      • Knowledge of employee benefits plans and applicable laws

    WORK ENVIRONMENT
    Indoor office environment. This position regularly works indoors. The noise level in the work environment is generally quiet to moderate and may become excessively noisy at times. Will have contact with employees, external agencies, and the public.

    $16.00/hour (ASRS Retirees will havr a lower hourly rate due to the Alternate Contribution Rate)
    12 Month position - 8 hours/day
