    POSITION TITLE: Behavior Intervention Specialist/TOA DIVISION: Curriculum
    WORK YEAR: 9 Months DEPARTMENT: ESP
    LOCATION: CES SALARY SCHEDULE: Teacher

    GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
    The Behavior Intervention Specialist is responsible for recommending, developing and implementing behavior strategies for students to classroom teachers. The specialist participates in Individualized Education Program, Program development, consults with, and acts as a resource to, general and special education staff recommending strategies and classroom modifications.

    MAJOR DUTIES:
    1. Observe students in classroom, collect data, and make recommendations for Functional Behavior Assessments.
    2. Participate as a member of the Individualized Education Program Team to conduct Functional Behavior Assessments and develop Functional Behavior Plans. Document students present levels of behavior performance as requested.
    3. Consult with general and special education staff and recommend strategies to implement the Functional Behavior Plan.
    4. Provide inservices on positive behavior strategies.
    5. Act as a resource for campus staff on modifying classroom instruction and developing behavior intervention strategies for staff to employ with individual students.
    6. Consult with parents regarding their students behavior, coordinating school interventions with parental interventions at home, and keeping parents apprised of the students progress.
    7. Upon request, work with the dean of Students, student study teams, threat assessment teams and other intervention personnel regarding training, development of programs, placement alternatives and other interventions to ensure that student behaviors are appropriately addressed.
    8. Maintain a log of contacts with students and staff, interventions employed and the result of those interventions.
    9. Other duties related to behavior intervention as assigned by supervisors.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. Possess a Masters Degree
    2. Have a certification in Special Education, school psychology or social work.
    3. Have three years experience working with high school students with challenging behaviors.
    4. Possess skills in conducting Functional Behavior Assessments and developing and implementing Functional Behavior Plans.
    5. Possess skills to effectively manage problem students behavior and train staff / teachers to do the same.

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
    Supervision received directly from the school Principal and indirectly from the Director, Exceptional Student Programs.
