    TITLE: Director of Early Literacy and Early Childhood

    CLASSIFICATION: District Office Administrator Director

    REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Teaching and Learning

    SUMMARY: The Director of Early Literacy and Early Childhood will be responsible for the overall operation of the Early Childhood Program and K-3 Early Literacy program including personnel, expenditures, outcomes, and compliance with state and federal regulations.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Provides supervision of the Pre-Kindergarten program.
    2. Collaborates with District Leadership to create quality Pre-K and Kindergarten experiences for students and parents.
    3. Collaborates with the school Principal to ensure a successful PK-K experience for students.
    4. Collaborates with District Leadership to ensure high retention rate between the RSD PK program, RSD K-3 Literacy program and Move on When Reading (MOWR).
    5. Pursues Early Childhood grants and PK tuition scholarship opportunities.
    6. Interprets policies and designs program guidelines for professional staff.
    7. Coordinates with staff in designing the curriculum/educational plans reflect the educational philosophy of the Roosevelt School District.
    8. Oversees the development of lesson plans and required educational documentation.
    9. Coordinates program activities with the Teaching and Learning Division.
    10. Selects supplies and equipment for the program, while maintaining inventory, and remaining within budget allocations.
    11. Leads professional training and growth for program staff.
    12. Oversees K-3 HMH Reading Implementation and LETRS training.
    13. Identifies community resources that will contribute to Early Childhood Development.
    14. Leads recruitment of eligible children to participate in the Roosevelt School District PK program.
    15. Maintains accurate records on children, staff, and educational activities.
    16. Implements all aspects of Federal, State, and City requirements and standards including completion and supervision of all documents.
    17. Performs additional duties as assigned which are consistent with the general responsibilities of the position.

    EDUCATION: Master's Degree in Literacy, Curriculum and Instruction, English Language Arts, Educational Leadership or related field of study from a university or college.

    LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS: Valid AZ Teaching Certificate, Valid Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the AZ Department of Public Safety

    SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:

    1. Experience in a Pre-K and/or K-3 environments.
    2. Competency in leadership, administrative, management and supervisory tasks.
    3. Skill and knowledge concerning Early Childhood Development and Early Literacy K-3.
    4. Knowledge of community resources and Early Childhood Development funding sources.
    5. Knowledge of grants, funding sources, community resources to support PreK-3rd Grade.
    6. Understanding of MOWR Requirements and school compliance requirements.
    7. Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
    8. Utilize good organizational skills and be able to prioritize tasks.
    9. Ability to deal professionally with all types of people, and work under stress.
    10. Must be able to maintain confidentiality: and exhibit mature judgment and emotional stability.

    WORKING CONDITIONS: The working environment is the normal office setting with travel to school sites.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month year, District Office Administration Salary Schedule, employee benefits in accordance with Board policies.

    EVALUATION: Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on evaluation of administrative staff.
