    VEHICLE SERVICE WORKER

    STARTING HOURLY RATE: $20.85 - $21.81 (PLACEMENT DEPENDS ON SIMILAR EXPERIENCE HELD AND EDUCATION)

    SUMMARY:

    The Vehicle Service Worker performs routine maintenance and safety checks on the Districts fleet, and routinely drives a bus on regular routes in order to transport students who require specialized transportation being transported.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    1. Performs preventive and routine maintenance on the Districts fleet (e.g., buses, cars, light duty trucks, medium-duty trucks and vans); maintains fuel and oil at proper operating levels.
    2. Reports necessary mechanical repairs to Transportation Director or designee.
    3. Inspects all buses daily, prior to use insure that all safety and special equipment is working properly.
    4. Drives bus on scheduled routes, special trips and field trips as needed and maintain order at all times.
    5. Provides first aid assistance as needed.
    6. Assists students being transported.
    7. Changes tires and repairs flats; charges batteries.
    8. Performs emission tests.
    9. Orders and stocks parts for the shop; make trips to pick up parts.
    10. Maintains maintenance and service records.
    11. Supports the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and school information; follows Governing Board Policies; performs all other related duties as required or assigned.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:

    High School diploma or GED equivalent.

    License and Certification Requirements:

    A valid Arizona State Drivers License is required.
    Must possess, or obtain a commercial drivers license (CDL) with all endorsements and certifications required by local, state and federal authorities to maintain and operate any vehicle in the Districts fleet (e.g., State of Arizona P and S endorsements within 45 work days of hiring.
    State of Arizona School Bus Driver Certification.
    Must obtain Level 1 IVP fingerprint clearance card within 45 work days of hiring.
    Maintain a current Red Cross First Aid certificate and CPR certificate.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

    Physical ability to perform all of the essential functions of the position (e.g., the ability to stand, turn, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, lift, push, and pull heavy objects such as school bus tires.). Sufficient vision and hearing to perform the essential functions of the position.
    Work occurs indoors and outdoors and requires exposure to various weather conditions.
