DEFINITION

The Youth Services Supervisor (YSS), under the supervision of the Youth Services Program Director (YSPD), is responsible for providing services to Metropolitan Area Advisory Committee on Anti-Poverty (MAAC) youth and the community. Services will be in keeping with agency goals, objectives, mission, and style and provided within a team framework. YSS is responsible for working with the team in developing team goals and objectives and in meeting those goals and objectives.

Under the direction and supervision of the Program Director, the YSS is responsible for internal operations of the Center during his/her shift. This includes supervision of the personnel on duty and responsibility for program areas specifically assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures that all program activities are being conducted according to the Centers policies and procedures and that the Center is operating efficiently.
  • Performs admission and initial risk assessments of residents.
  • Trains new staff members and support staff ensuring that current staff receives appropriate in- service training including Crisis and De-escalation Intervention.
  • Responsible for the safety and security of the residents, staff and the facility while ensuring that health, fire, and state licensing regulations are met.
  • Assists in the recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of full-time staff, intermittent replacements, staff, and volunteers.
  • Individually responsible for personnel, programming and/or training.
  • Attends managerial and general staff meetings, conducts meetings with individual shift staff, and maintains open channels of communication.
  • Ensures that each shift is adequately staffed by arranging substitute coverage.
  • Conducts initial investigations and informs the Program Director of allegations and complaints made by staff and residents.
  • Monitors all keys from shift-to-shift and ensures that all keys are properly accounted for.
  • Assesses employees responsibilities daily and submits to the Director annual performance appraisals for each as necessary.
  • After written or verbal consultation with appropriate medical or psychiatric personnel, oversees that all medication is dispensed properly to residents during their shift, if assigned.
  • Supervises the implementation of the programs software to the facilitys computers. This includes gathering information and making recommendations regarding the modification to meet contractual obligations.
  • Analyzes and provides advocacy and services, such as needed emergency medical care, or special needs programming.
  • Responsible for input into budget for area of responsibility including training and education.
  • Provide crisis intervention, during working hours and as needed after work hours.
  • Prepare monthly statistics, reports for required contracts and agency reports.
  • Adhere to agency and contract client confidentiality, HIPAA, and mandated reporting policies.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Knowledge of and Ability to:

  • Able to work with potentially homeless, runaway, unaccompanied minors, and exploited youth.
  • Able to work in a very diverse setting with people of all backgrounds, culture, and sexual orientation.
  • Excellent time management skills; organized and able to prioritize.
  • Able to organize and manage large amounts of files, schedules, dates, and information.
  • Self-directed and able to work without supervision.
  • Ability and comfortable with building personal relationships and dedicated to helping others.
  • Able to lift and carry 25 lbs.

Physical Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a residential setting.
  • Must be willing to develop or possess working knowledge of trauma-informed care and dual diagnosis treatment.
  • Experience working in trauma and dual diagnosis programs preferred.
  • Motivated to take on additional community involvement projects and solve problems.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with multiple cases.
  • Empathetic and supportive with mentorship and leadership skills.
  • Flexible this is 24 hours - 7 days a week program. (Available to work evenings, overnight, weekends and holidays)

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION

  • Minimum of two years of college or related technical schooling in Social Science, Family and Community services, Psychology, or related field areas of study.
  • Bachelors Degree desired and preferred
  • Related work experience dealing with at risk adolescents.
  • Bilingual Spanish-English speaking desired.
  • First Aid and CPR Certified preferred.

HEALTH STATUS

Must have a physical examination, TB clearance and a drug screen by a doctor/clinic designated by MAAC as well as immunization records for influenza*, pertussis and measles as required by state and federal regulations prior to the first day of employment.

While performing the duties of this class, an employee is regularly required to stand, walk and sit, talk or hear both in person and by telephone, uses hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls, reach with hands and arms. An employee also is regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl, climb or balance and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Mental Demands

While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret information; analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret people and situations; use basic math; learn and apply new information or skills; work under intensive deadlines and interact with MAAC management, administrators, staff, teachers, parents, family members, children and others encountered in the course of work.

BACKGROUND CLEARANCE

All positions are subject to a background/education check, DMV check, NSOR, exclusion and debarment checks prior to hire and periodically throughout employment as required by various funding sources.

Note: California Start law requires background criminal checks on anyone who works in a licensed childcare facility who is not a client. Must have or obtain a current criminal background check clearance, signed criminal record statement, and signed Acknowledgement to Report Child Abuse form prior to the first day of employment.

TRANSPORTATION

Must have and maintain a valid California Drivers License, daily use of a personal, insured vehicle, and have and maintain a motor vehicle driving record acceptable to MAACs insurance carrier. Incumbents will be enrolled in the California DMV Pull Program.
