Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification.

As a Clinical Social Worker, you will play a vital role in providing compassionate and comprehensive social work services to individuals and families facing various healthcare and mental health challenges. This position combines clinical expertise with counseling and advocacy skills to support clients in achieving their physical, emotional, and social well-being goals. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver patient-centered care and promote positive outcomes.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Conducts comprehensive assessments of clients' mental health, emotional, and social needs;
  • Provides individual therapy and counseling to clients, using evidence-based therapeutic techniques;
  • Facilitates group therapy sessions to address specific mental health concerns or support groups for clients with shared experiences;
  • Assists clients in developing coping strategies and resilience skills;
  • Develops crisis intervention plans and collaborates with crisis intervention teams when needed;
  • Advocates for clients' rights and access to appropriate services;
  • Educates clients and families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and available resources;
  • Raises awareness about mental health issues and reduces stigma through community education;
  • Stays current with best practices, evidence-based treatments, and therapeutic modalities through continuing education and training.
Minimum Qualifications

A Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in social work, behavioral or social services, or a closely related field as defined by the department head at the time of recruitment and current licensure by the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and three (3) years of full-time behavioral health work experience.

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):


  1. Must be independently licensed to practice in Arizona.
  2. Minimum three (3) years experience providing services to individuals with complex stress disorders, substance abuse, seriously mentally ill, co-occurring disorders, and/or individuals who may be victims or perpetrators of domestic violence.
  3. Minimum three (3) years of specialized experience working in a correctional environment, delivering assessment services to a wide variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, and diversified backgrounds.
  4. Direct experience interfacing with criminal justice agencies or working with the justice involved.
  5. Minimum three (3) years experience delivering direct care services such as group, individual, and family therapy.

Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum/desired qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum/desired qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Supplemental Information

Licenses and Certificates:All positions are required to possess current licensure by the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). All positions are required to possess Certified Correctional Health professional certification (CCHP) or become certified within six months of hire. Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicants suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services review and approval of the candidates driving record.

Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County.
