Full Range: $49,763 - $69,668 Annually

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Applicants meeting minimum qualifications will be evaluated further based on their supplemental questionnaire responses. Forty (40) hours per week is the standard calculation measurement for full-time experience; For less than forty (40) hours, the calculation of time is prorated accordingly. Top-scoring candidates will be offered an interview (date/time - TBD). Duties/Responsibilities

(Work assignments may vary depending on the department's needs and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.)

Develops, facilitates, and/or present evidence-based educational programs and services, including early literacy programs, community outreach activities, youth advisory boards, and computer and technology instruction in person or virtually;

Participates in the system-wide in-person or virtual committee meetings focused on childrens services, youth services, or adult services and attend relevant continuing education trainings and workshops in order to incorporate current best practices in a particular service level;


Oversees assigned unit(s) within a library such as childrens services, youth services, or adult services by developing, presenting, and coordinating services inclusive of diverse members of the public, vulnerable individuals, and non-English speakers;


Supervises assigned unit(s) through direct supervision of library employees, volunteers, and/or interns by training, scheduling, and evaluating performance, making recommendations regarding probationary periods, employee discipline, and human resources issues in coordination with library management and other County departments;


Manages, coordinates, and determines priorities of workload, including monitoring levels of resources, establishing timelines, assigning work, monitoring progress, recommending changes and suggestions, writing, reviewing, and editing reports prepared by staff, and approving completed projects and reports;


Coordinates and participates in the provision of internal and external services; Manages payroll data for direct reports within assigned unit(s);


Creates, maintains, and analyzes databases using automated information systems to monitor and track information, such as customer feedback and/or community demographics and compile, edit, and summarize data to prepare reports, recommendations, memoranda, letters, and various documents;


Utilizes conflict management skills to de-escalate and handle unexpected problems or potentially dangerous situations and complete associated documentation;


Provides assistance to members of the public by finding and relaying community resource information;


Maintains appropriate security and confidentiality of information encountered or created within assigned unit(s) or division;


Promotes and educates customers on the use of library collections including the librarys electronic resources with other County departments and public, school, private, legal, medical, engineering, educational, and business libraries;


Performs facilities management duties by monitoring and reporting maintenance issues and investigating or resolving operational or technical issues;


Performs or coordinates servicing and maintenance of library resources, including the librarys website and databases as well as software, equipment, and technology;


Performs or coordinates collection maintenance by recommending the acquisition of new materials, and applying professional standards in collection maintenance activities;


Provides content for web pages for assigned topics;


Utilizes conflict management skills to de-escalate and address unexpected problems or potentially volatile situations and complete associated documentation;


May lead a department team or committee related to implementing library programs, policies, or initiatives in alignment with the Librarys strategic goals under the direction of library administration and management;


May manage a library division with limited staff and perform all related duties, including creating annual Facilities Emergency Action Plans, implementing safety measures for staff and the public, and submitting reports and budget information.


KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Knowledge of:

  • principles and practices for providing customer service;
  • coordination and implementation of project management and public administration;
  • current technologies, including common software platforms and associated programs as well as digital devices and equipment used in the library;
  • business English, punctuation, grammar and spelling;
  • local, county, state, federal, and accreditation body rule, regulations, and standards appropriate to area of responsibility;
  • public service best practices, including culturally competent community-driven programming, public relations, and conflict management complaint resolution;
  • trends and advances in library management and resources;
  • pertinent copyright law, rules, regulations, and "fair use" doctrines;
  • research and analysis methods;
  • the different needs of diverse communities and cultures served by the library;
  • ensures compliance with County protocols, policies and procedures relative to area of assignment.

Skill in:

  • communicating effectively, orally and in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience;

  • establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, colleagues, community agencies, organizations, and other library partners;
  • supervising and mentoring support staff, interns, and volunteers using a strength-based approach;
  • interpreting and utilizing data, reports, policies, procedures, correspondence, and manuals;
  • documentation of assigned division(s) activities, including the creation and maintenance of mandated records, reports and presentations;
  • developing and maintaining a multi-media library collection;
  • evaluating and culling the collection to maintain its integrity and usefulness;
  • coordinating and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and program activities;
  • use of automated information systems to develop and maintain databases, spreadsheets, and Word processing programs.
Minimum Qualifications

Masters degree in Library Science (MLS) from an accredited college or university AND one year of customer service experience. (See Special Notice Items below for further requirements.)

  8. Supervisory and/or lead experience.
  9. Extensive knowledge of and recent experience with computer operating systems, applications, and technology.
  10. Knowledge of current and emerging library principles, practices, and technologies.
  11. Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  12. Strong cultural sensitivity and competency abilities.
  13. Excellent conflict resolution skills.
  14. Experience with/knowledge of Pima County Public Library's vision, mission, and values.
Selection Procedure:

Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum/desired qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum/desired qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Supplemental Information

Licenses and Certificates: Some positions may require specialized certification or licensure relative to assignment at the time of appointment or prior to completion of an initial or promotional probation period. Some positions require a valid Arizona Class D driver license at the time of application or prior to completion of an initial or promotional probation period. Failure to obtain/maintain the required certifications/licenses shall be grounds for termination.


Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. Incumbent may be required to work rotating shifts, including weekends. Some positions may require bilingual abilities in English and a second language, as determined by the appointing authority. Applicants for this position in this classification with a pending graduation date must provide documentation of the pending graduation date from the awarding college/university's registrar's office at the time of application.
