In this role, our plan technicians are responsible for verifying adherence to County building regulations, as well as related codes, laws, ordinances, and statutes. - Reviews residential construction plans, sketches and other data for compliance with applicable County building and related trades codes, laws, rules, regulations and industry standards;
- Approves/disapproves simple construction, electrical/mechanical systems and addition permit applications based upon review of technical data for compliance with applicable codes and standards;
- Assists permit applicants and the public by explaining the permitting, plans review and appeal processes, interpreting and explaining applicable codes and requirements, and recommending changes in plans and permit applications to assure compliance with these same codes and technical requirements;
- Assists other staff in the interpretation and application of specialized codes and standards in area of own expertise;
- Directs permit applicants and the public to other appropriate staff or other offices/agencies to resolve technical questions or issues, e.g., zoning, right-of-way, wastewater, etc.;
- Identifies discrepancies, potential conflicts and recommended changes in applicable codes, laws, ordinances and technical standards for supervisory or management attention and decision;
- Prepares and maintains manual and computer-based records and files of materials reviewed and related materials;
- Prepares routine, recurring and special reports for management;
- May specialize in technical requirements of a specified trade or code area, e.g., plumbing, electrical, mechanical, structural, etc.
(1) Three years of experience as a contractor, engineer, architect, or as a superintendent, foreman, or competent mechanic in charge of construction, construction plan reviewer or construction project manager.
OR:
(2) Two years of experience with Pima County or another public-sector agency as a permitting technician or providing paraprofessional support to technical permitting specialists.
(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):
- An inspection or plan review related ICC certification.
- Minimum three (3) months experience with application of building codes.
- Minimum three (3) months experience with vertical (Building) construction principles.
- Minimum three (3) months experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with GIS and inspection software.
- Experience with zoning/grading regulations.
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum/desired qualifications. Candidates meeting the minimum/desired qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicants suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services review and approval of the candidates driving record.
Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County.
