Position Description

This intermittent, weekend position is in the Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation Department. Selected candidate must be available to work Thursday through Sunday.

The Customer Service Cashier will be the public face of the Shooting Sports Program and will attend to customers and visitors. The Customer Service Cashier will register range customers and students, collect money (cash, check or credit card) and issue receipts, maintain daily records and prepare transaction reports, sell merchandise and assist customers with merchandise selection.

Duties/Responsibilities

(Work assignments may vary depending on the department's needs and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.)

Instructs and guides groups and produces work in the visual, performing or literary arts;
Organizes and conducts special interest meetings, classes, workshops, clubs, and events;
Attends meetings, training sessions, craft fairs, and/or community events related to specialty area;
Maintains close liaison with community and provides information concerning area of specialty and recreation activities;
Prepares brochures and informational materials related to specialized activity;
Registers students, collects money and issues receipts;
Maintains records and prepares reports;
Requisitions supplies and monitors the issuance, use, and care of recreation supplies and equipment;
Ensures safety and cleanliness of recreation facilities;
May conduct safety classes in the proper use of firearms and/or archery equipment, enforce rules/regulations at a firing range, and make reports of violations;
May show movies and operate audiovisual equipment;
May prepare and make bank deposits.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Knowledge of:

  • specialized recreation area;
  • principles, rules, materials, and equipment of the specialized activity.
Some positions may require good knowledge of the geographic and social area of service.

Skill in:
  • instructing and leading groups of program participants of varying ages;
  • stimulating interest and enthusiasm among others;
  • communicating effectively, both orally and in writing;
  • maintaining effective working relationships with other;
  • maintaining records and preparing reports;
  • operating audiovisual equipment.
Some positions may require skill in the handling of firearms and/or archery equipment. Minimum Qualifications

EITHER

(1) 1,040 hours of experience in the recreation specialty involved.
(Relevant education in the recreation specialty may be substituted for the above mentioned experience.)
OR
(2) Six months of service and not less than 96 hours of experience working as a volunteer with the Pima County Shooting Sports Program or Recreation Community Centers Program.

The value of informal education will be determined based on its nature and applicability to the specialty involved.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Minimum three (3) years experience in cash register use; cash, check and credit card familiarization and understanding; retail experience and customer service.
  2. Possess basic computer skills.
Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum/desired qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum/desired qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Supplemental Information

Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant's suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services' review and approval of the candidate's driving record. Some positions may require possession of a First Aid Certification Card, Gun Safety Registration, and/or CPR Certification on the date of appointment. Failure to obtain/maintain the required licensure/certification shall be grounds for termination.

Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County.
