    Full-Time: 40 hours per week

    Position Summary:
    Monitor students assigned to the In-School Suspension Program (ISS) and maintains an effective learning environment.

    Essential Functions:
    • Provide supervision and maintain daily attendance and other records as required of students assigned to the ISS program.
    • Review and become familiar with ISS policies, procedures and student expectations.
    • Work with students and or other staff members on issues such as behavior management and the prevention of undesirable behaviors that resulted in student being assigned to ISS.
    • Monitor all ISS assignments; provide encouragement and feedback to students, monitor tests, computer work and provide instructional assistance as appropriate with completing assigned classroom work.
    • Serve as liaison between classroom teacher and students assigned to the ISS program to obtain and return students daily class work and homework when appropriate.
    • Maintain a structured, orderly environment, assisting in the maintenance of a quiet, orderly classroom.
    • Alert the teacher to any problem or special information about a student.
    • Maintain the confidentiality of protected student and staff member information.
    • Be alert to and appropriately report the possibility of any substance abuse, child abuse or dangerous situation based upon daily observation.
    • Operate and care for school and District equipment properly.
    • Ensure students have security escorts to restrooms, breaks or lunch periods as necessary.
    • Communicate with teachers in advance for work requests and complete appropriate documentation for all students assigned to the room.
    • Refer inappropriate behavior to designated administrator.
    • Be aware and follow District policies as outlined.
    • Respond to all internal and external customers, as it relates to position, in a prompt, efficient, friendly and polite manner.
    • Function effectively as a team member and be a positive role model for students at all times.
    • Be responsible, reliable and punctual.
    • Be flexible and adaptive to change and accept direction with a positive attitude.
    • Exercise positive problem solving behavior and conflict resolution skills.
    • Attends all mandatory trainings as required.
    • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills.
    • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and maintains rapport and composure with parents, students, staff and the general public.
    • Enforces school rules fairly and appropriately.
    • Recognizes potential problems and takes steps to prevent hazards.
    • Perform any and all other duties as assigned.
    Training and Experience:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Experience supervising and working with high school students preferred.
    • Mediation training with conflicts in a disciplinary setting preferred.
    Licensing/Certification Requirements:
    • Possess or obtain valid First Aid and CPR certification at the time of employment; must maintain current certification status while employed.
    • Valid Arizona Drivers license.

    Knowledge Of:
    • Demonstrates a knowledge of conflict resolution.
    • Current knowledge of pertinent laws, related District policies and procedures.
    • General knowledge of a variety of academic subject areas preferred.
    • Training in methods of dealing with student misconduct effectively.
    • Ability to establish effective working relationships with students and school personnel.
    Skill In:
    • Works within specific time frames and is detail oriented.
    • Well-organized, with demonstrated ability to multi-task.
