    DEFINITION: The Academic Interventionist works with the principal, faculty, students and parents to promote increased academic achievement through targeted educational interventions. The AI assists the school administrator and school leadership teams in developing, administering and coordinating academic and socio-emotional supports that will help students succeed in school, develop the knowledge and tools to become socially responsible citizens and productive members of society. The AI work collaboratively with school staff and will increase the level of existing communication between home and school.

    REPORTS TO: Site Principal

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class).

    TASKS:
    Collaborate with principal, teachers, and counselors in implementing academic and social interventions for at-risk students.
    Meet with high-risk students (i.e., not making sufficient growth in meeting state standards and/or not completing grade level standards) and determine intervention plans. Plan will include continuous monitoring and academic support using district resources.
    Collaborate with principal for attendance reporting and develop systems to improve student attendance.
    Ensure that policy as defined in the District Handbook of Standards of Intervention and Discipline Measures is implemented appropriately.
    Communicate with administration and leadership team regarding status of targeted students in need of high-level intervention.
    Communicate with teachers, administrators, parents, students, IT staff, registrars, and community partners in regards to support for student interventions.
    Supervises special projects as assigned by the principal.
    Participate in required district trainings/meetings and provide appropriate follow-up.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
    Knowledge of developmental assets, resiliency and other strength-based models.
    Extensive knowledge and experience in Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) and Restorative Practice.
    Knowledge of interventions available for student to increase students school achievement and engagement in school.
    Knowledge of child and adolescent development (needs behaviors).
    Knowledge of school, district, and community resources.
    Knowledge of crisis intervention and management.
    Knowledge of parenting skills and behavior management.
    Knowledge of cultural diversity, value systems, social and economic conditions and related issues.
    Knowledge of substance use/abuse and violence and their indicators, effects and treatment.
    Knowledge of school law, mandatory reporting, child welfare laws, regulations and guidelines.
    Ability in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with student/families, staff, and community agencies.
    Ability in analyzing situations and information and using sound judgment to make decisions and determining appropriate course of action.
    Ability in planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating intervention activities.
    Ability to compile accurate data and prepare clear and concise reports and communications.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Work is performed in an indoor environment. Work requires frequent sitting, standing, bending, repetitive motion, vision to monitor and lifting up to 50 pounds.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    Bachelors Degree in Education, Counseling, Sociology, or closely related field

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    Bilingual Spanish/English preferred

    Salary Grade: Refer to PNT Salary Guide, Grade 8 FTE: 1.0 Days in Contract: 225
