Job Description:
This position will serve as a senior advisor, advising traditional MS and PhD students as well as those enrolled in our semiconductor certificate program. In addition to the core advising duties indicated below, this individual will be responsible for all graduate admission and recruitment activities including but not limited to working closely with program chairs on the admissions process, preparing graduate application files for admissions committee evaluation, monitoring decision timelines, running queries; assisting with event planning including the Graduate Open House, new student welcome, graduate program information sessions. This position reports to the Manager, Graduate Advising.
Salary Range:
$50,000 - $56,000 per year; DOE
Essential Duties:
- Provide academic advisement to MS and PhD students in mechanical, aerospace, chemical, materials science, modern energy production & sustainable use, and biological design, as well as students enrolled in the semiconductor certificate.
- Perform administrative tasks related to student enrollment, registration, orientation, and degree completion.
- Maintain comprehensive, detailed, and accurate student records using university-wide systems.
- Organize and participate in student recruitment, outreach, retention,n and engagement activities.
- Consult with program chairs, faculty, colleagues, and students to provide technical advice and problem-solving assistance.
- Utilize university-wide advising systems to work closely with students to identify all academic options, including degrees, extracurricular activities, study abroad programs, research, and professional field experience.
- Provide support and counsel to students in selecting options best suited to student academic and personal resources; make appropriate campus referrals.
- Communicates with University partners, including the Graduate College, Graduate Admissions, Registrar's Office, and Engineering Dean's Office.
Desired Qualifications:
- Evidence of a master's degree in higher education or related area.
- Experience in college level academic advising.
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
- Experience working in a fast paced and high-volume advising unit.
- Experience in using student information computer systems and degree audits (i.e., PeopleSoft/Oasis, OARS, iPOS).
- Experience in thinking critically to problem solve independently and as part of a group.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current issues and theories in public and higher education and college advising.
- Experience in using Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook,
- Teams).
- Experience using database programs (Analytics, Salesforce, Amazon Workspaces).
- Experience assisting with special events.
- Experience developing and maintaining effective professional working relationships.
- Evidence of effective communication skills.
Working Environment:
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
