Position Summary

The UNM Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences is seeking an Accountant 1 with excellent accounting, analytical, computer, and organizational skills to join our busy team. The successful candidate will be a professional, detail-oriented individual with proven problem-solving ability and strong oral and written communication skills to interact with faculty and staff at all levels.
Our Accountant 1 will be responsible for a variety of duties including: initiating, processing, and maintaining records of a variety of complex fiscal, budgetary, and other associated transactions. Investigating and resolving problems related to funds, budgets, expenditures, and/or procurement practices, and providing reports and analyses on complex fiscal issues. Will also provide assistance in the development, implementation, and management of fiscal systems and procedures, applying basic concepts, methods, and techniques.
Some specific duties include:

  • Creating and processing monthly NSP payouts
  • Assisting with EPAFs, PHAREDs and salary agreements
  • Creating journal vouchers, requesting and terming indices
  • Processing and maintaining faculty and trainee professional development accounts
  • UNM purchasing card holder; assisting faculty and staff with Chrome River
  • Serving as time keeper approver

Conditions of Employment
  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 9 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; no previous experience required.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in Accounting
  • Experience working with UNM systems including: MyReports, EPrints, Banner
  • Expertise in MS Outlook, Excel, Word and Teams
