UNM Residence Life and Student Housing (RLSH) serves over 2,000 student residents in 12 living learning communities, and operates 8 residence halls at the UNM main campus, Student Family Housing apartments at South Campus, and operates the student housing component of Lobo Rainforest. RLSH provides essential oversight of residents, and an enriched and vibrant living experience, offering on average more than 1,000 residential life programs for residents during the academic year. RLSH is a self-supporting auxiliary entity, with an annual operating budget in excess of $10.9 million. Year-round operations include regular term housing, summer housing, residence life management, facilities management, summer conference and summer intern programs, desk services, student safety, marketing and communications, and other business operations. RLSH operates 24/7, 365 days/year, and is one of UNMs largest department employers of students.

This Accountant II position reports directly to the Assistant Director for Business Operations, and oversees daily financial operations, supervising a staff of two fiscal tech positions. This is a working manager position, providing direct support as well as oversight of all fiscal operations, to support managers and staff across the department, including budget and reserves, various revenues, expenditures, transfers and allocations. Process management to include requisitions, encumbrances, invoices, work order costs tracking, journal vouchers, labor distributions, Pcard and other Procurement actions, as well as tracking, and reconciliations. This group also provides support to the department for hiring processes and payroll, to support Residence Life, Facilities, and Business operations and programs. Provides various ad hoc and scheduled reports, troubleshooting, correction and analysis to support accurate, effective, timely management and compliance for all financial processes and provide support to management for strategic decision and use of resources.

In addition to experience in fiscal operations, the successful candidate will evince a commitment to customer service, able to work across entities and operational units, effective communications, time management and able to adapt to and manage change while maintaining fiscal effectiveness.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Extensive experience with Banner Finance or similar integrated financial system.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing accounting processes, records, and reconciliations
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, compiling, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting complex, customizable financial reports, statements and revenue projections to various audiences utilizing diverse management information systems.
  • Skill in evaluating financial operations and procedures, formulating standards, developing and implementing operational procedures and internal controls, to assure timeliness, accuracy and compliance for accounting, payroll, personnel, procurement and related records.
  • Supervisory experience to include strong leadership and motivational skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in collaboration, establishing partnerships, and successfully establishing relationships within the department and university.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 12 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in business management, accounting, finance, public administration or related field
  • Housing experience with knowledge or involvement in management of fiscal operations, personnel / payroll, systems, operations, and finance.
  • Knowledge of student life/student development programs
  • Knowledge of university accounting and procurement, especially auxiliary business operations.
  • Proven ability to provide guidance to executive leadership on financial business matters and/or processes.
  • Prior experience in strategic planning and budget management, to support managements strategic goals.
