Position Summary

The College of Nursing at the UNM Health Sciences Center is a complex organization with a multitude of programs and initiatives across all levels. The College is in a period of rapid expansion and as such we welcome applications for an experienced, adaptable and flexible Accountant II.

We are seeking a dedicated, hard-working, detail-oriented individual who enjoys a fast paced environment and a variety of responsibilities. This individual will perform advanced multifaceted accounting and related functions such as reviewing and analyzing budgets, monitoring expenditures, and ensuring expenditure control. The Accountant II will perform financial analysis, budget projections and account reconciliations as they relate to our various programs. The Accountant II will be responsible for analyzing complex financial data, preparing reports, approving payroll and other accounting transactions.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing budgets for contract and grant proposals. In addition, the candidate will analyze and track expenditures to ensure compliance with UNM policies and guidelines in conjunction with various funding agencies regulations and perform Effort Certifications Pre-review.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 12 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Proficient in MS Excel to analyze and interpret financial data and to prepare financial reports
  • Experience working in Banner, MyReports, Chrome River, Salary/Budget Developer
  • 3+ years of accounting related experience to include journal entries, account analysis and reconciliations.
  • Experience in administering and monitoring budgets
  • Experience in interpreting and providing guidance to principal investigators in the application of general and specific funding policies, regulations, and requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively as demonstrated by your cover letter
