Position Summary

The Department of Family and Community Medicine in the School of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual, to work closely with the department administrator and accounting team as an Accountant 2.

The individual must be detail oriented with excellent multitasking, communication & organizational skills. The position includes a broad range of administrative, financial (advanced accounting) and grant management skills to oversee and manage a federally and state funded Department with multiple research and program projects that are grant and contract supported. The qualified candidate must be able to work independently, meet deadlines on time, work with both restricted and non-restricted accounts, and must be able to manage complex funds flow for revenues and expenses.

Duties Include:

Processing purchase order modifications, invoices for programs, and internal purchase requisitions for services as needed.

Monitoring and approving revenue and expenses for departmental accounts, ensuring

compliance with funding and reporting requirements, and expenditure control.

Reviewing and reconciling assigned general ledger accounts, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring adherence to University Business Policies and Procedures.

Preparing financial reconciliations and providing information to management and senior graded program staff.

Analyzing complex financial and operating data and preparing projections.

Monitor financial data and reports for accuracy and enter data into Salary Planner and Budget Planner as well as the Categorization Asset Report.

Develop the budgets for assigned general ledger accounts and adjust as necessary throughout the current operating cycle.

Meeting regularly with program managers and/or faculty concerning the fiscal aspects of program planning, salary, and budget changes.

Performing general accounting functions as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 12 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working at UNM

Managing restricted and unrestricted accounts with specific timelines, employees, scope of work, and requirements of the funding agency

Experience managing multiple contracts & grants and programs with multiple principal investigators and program managers

Experience with using financial accounting systems such as Banner

Experience with Grant & Contract Accounting and Research Administration in an academic, non-profit, or higher education environment

Experience preparing and reviewing financial documents, including financial statements

Experience with reconciling, analyzing and reporting

Experience preparing financial projections and budgeting
