Accounting Manager - General Accounting & Accounts Receivable
Job Description
Under limited direction and reporting to the Senior Director of Financial Operations, the General Accounting and Accounts Receivable Manager will coordinate and oversee all of the Institutes daily General Ledger and Accounts receivable functions to ensure accurate and efficient financial operations.
The Manager will have primary responsibility for ensuring all accounting functions related to the general ledger and accounts receivable areas. Managing and developing a team of accounting professionals the role will manage and oversee the daily operations of the general accounting and invoicing teams. The Manager will ensure accurate and timely collection of payments from customers, creating and maintaining records and reports of receivables and cash receipts, monitoring and improving invoicing and collection procedures and policies. Ensuring proper accounting methods, policies and principles are being followed. Oversees the calculating, preparation, posting and approvals of invoices and journal entries. Assist with monthly and annual financial closing and external financial audit. Serves as primary point of contact with external auditors including preparation and review of audit schedules and support. Prepares and reviews monthly account reconciliations. Assists in preparation and filing of tax returns as needed. Perform all other related duties and tasks as required or assigned.
Will identify staffing needs and available expertise, provide leadership and mentoring to all department staff and work with Senior Director of Financial Operations and the Human Resources Department as needed on performance evaluations, training and development of staff.
Requires a bachelors degree in accounting, finance or a related field and 4-6 years of directly related progressively responsible accounting management experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained. Requires a minimum of 2 years of previous personnel management.
Must have previous demonstrated experience overseeing the operations of accounting teams including general ledger and accounts receivable departments.
Requires previous experience effectively leading a large team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and the ability to prioritize departmental functions and responsibilities to meet deadlines and goals. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate previous success in developing professional and effective relationships with both administrative and non-administrative managers and colleagues, and the ability to effectively communicate financial needs to Institute leadership.
Must have superior professional-level written and verbal communication skills; a high degree of professionalism, diplomacy and discretion; excellent judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills; and strong customer-service skills. Demonstrated ability in managing a wide variety of complex tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting multiple deadlines is required. The ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with solid judgment and discretion is critical, as well as the ability to perform duties independently.
Work is performed in an office environment. Will operate standard office equipment and will frequently stand, walk, sit, perform desk-based computer tasks, use a telephone, perform repetitive motions and occasionally lift objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
