Who we are
Shellpoint Mortgage Servicing (SMS) is one of Americas top-five non-bank mortgage-servicing companies. What is mortgage servicing? Our clients are businesses that own mortgage loans (such as banks and real estate investment firms). On their behalf, we manage (or "service") their loan portfolios, which means that we collect homeowners mortgage payments, pay their tax and insurance bills, and help homeowners in default to get current.
Summary:
The Accounting Manager is primarily responsible for maintaining accurate financial records for the company. In addition this person should supervisor other accounting personnel.
Responsibilities:
Performs oversight and management of mortgage accounting department staff and ensures the accounting is performed in accordance with GAAP and company policy
Ensure loan servicing accounting system is accurately maintained and reported on a timely basis
Responsible for the preparation and review of period reporting including regulatory reports, and management reports and schedules
Reviews and approves journal entries, reconciliations, and period end financial results
Maintain fixed asset records
Performs accounting for certain subjective accounts and performs roll-forwards and flux analysis
Review all expenses for potential savings
Supervise accounting department of 3-4 who are responsible for performing accounting related loan servicing various accounting personnel
Applies superior decision making techniques pertaining to inquiries, approvals and requests as they apply to existing policies and procedures
Be actively involved and follow the companys Quality Management process by continuous improvement of processes directed toward reducing cost, and increasing customer satisfaction
Process employee expense reports to be paid on a bimonthly basis
Perform other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications/Skills:
Experience in managing the General Ledger, prefer someone who has managed or participated in a GL conversion or upgrade project
Strong analytical skills and ability to read analyze and interpret financial statements and data
Experience with ILS/Servicing Director and Microsoft Dynamics a definite plus
Good communication skills
Minimum 5 years accounting experience with recent mortgage industry experience
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Good organizational skills
Educational Requirements:
Undergraduate degree; Accounting or Finance degree preferred
