Master of Science in Mental Health on Grief and Bereavement

Offered by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, this grief and bereavement degree program prepares graduates to serve with compassion and understanding across a variety of settings that may include hospice care agencies, churches, hospitals and community-based organizations.

Course Description: MHW-513: Grief and Bereavement Theory and Practice

This course covers the history of grief theory research. It investigates common experiences of individuals experiencing a loss. The various forms of loss and the unique characteristics of grievers are examined. Resources for grief and bereavement are covered.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include equipping students with the required skill set, facilitating classroom discussions, assessing student performance and preparing students to be successful leaders in their chosen profession. Other main responsibilities include the following:

  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the Universitys Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred: Doctorate in Mental and/or Behavioral Health field AND a minimum of 3 year of experience working in the community mental and/or behavioral health field related to working with grief.
  • Minimum: Masters in Mental and/or Behavioral Health field AND a minimum of 3 years of experience working in the community mental and/or behavioral health field related to working with grief.
