Job Description

Located in the Valley of Sun in the heart of Phoenix, Arizona, GCU is a regionally accredited, private, nondenominational Christian University.

The Student Support Specialist in the L.O.P.E.S. Academy at the Cardon Center is responsible for coordination and smooth operation of the L.O.P.E.S. Academy daily activities. This position works directly with the L.O.P.E.S. Academy Program Manager and adult learners with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are participating in a university campus experience program to find personal purpose through academic, social, and job skills development.

What you will do:

  • Screening candidate applications and corresponding documentation such as IEPs.

  • Scheduling interviews.

  • Actively engaging with program participants, parents, and guardians to ensure a comprehensive and supportive environment.

  • Assist in workshops and classes.

  • Organize supplemental events and activities.

  • Maintain the safety of program participants.

  • Track and document participant progress.

  • Develop and nurture external internal and external partnerships.

  • Engage in community outreach.

  • Support the development of internship partnerships.

What you will need:

  • Bachelors degree in Special Education, Social Work, Psychology, or related degree.

  • Minimum of one year experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in an academic setting.

  • Experience working with IEPs.

  • Experience with vocational rehab, a division of disability services.

  • De-escalation experience related to populations with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

  • Experience interacting with the parents and guardians of individuals with intellectual disabilities on a regular basis.

  • Must pass pre-employment background investigation.

  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the Universitys Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
