Adult Education Teacher - Digital Media - Fontana Adult School - #2603.21

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Working under the direction of the Coordinator, Career Technical Education, will be responsible to plan, implement, and evaluate learning activities in the ROP Digital Media pathway. Teacher will prepare high school students for stated field; to establish and maintain an orderly, safe, and well-disciplined classroom learning environment; and to perform other job-related duties as assigned. This position is under the general supervision of the CTE Coordinator/Principal and may supervise instructional assistants or other related clerical staff. In addition teacher will assist students in obtaining employment, participate in advisory meetings, keep accurate records and perform related duties as required.

Appropriate to the contemporary digital media field are required to teach students multiple technical tasks associated with the career field. Occasionally updating skills in order to meet changing job conditions is required. Specific skills necessary to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: Successful instruction of students in visual communication, principles of design composition, graphic design and layout, typography, color theory, product & packaging design, image generation and file preparation, digital photography, digital imaging, pre-press preparation, health & safety guidelines, offset printing and screen printing technologies, binding and finishing processes, multimedia blending/design crossing various software platforms, business and entrepreneurship principles, pathways to careers, student digital portfolios and presentation; effective communication skills are required including written and oral; and the ability to understand and interpret copyright law and regulations.

Demonstrate and teach effectively technical area(s) of contemporary media; identify the role of visual and digital arts in history and culture; compare, contrast, and analyze influences of various artists currently using contemporary media; color theory, digital equipment and software, identifies different approaches used when taking digital photographs and videos, demonstrates an understanding of lighting, lighting ratios, and lighting equipment, create computerized graphics and digital photography and video, portfolio presentations, apply Macintosh/Windows operating system using Adobe Creative Cloud Photoshop, digital imaging with Lightroom, Illustrator, and Desktop Publishing with Adobe InDesign; instruct students assigned in technical/vocational area(s) and career development skills; establish appropriate learning goals and objectives as well as effective lesson plans; effectively communicate orally and in writing; establish and maintain approved and effective discipline and order in a classroom or work site environment; guide and advise students regarding assigned technical/vocational area; establish criteria and evaluate students progress; develop and maintain a variety of administrative records; prepare periodic and/or special reports as necessary; safely and effectively operate a variety of equipment appropriate for assigned instructional area; meet the travel requirements from site to site; establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with staff, the public, and other agency personnel; perform overtime as needed and perform job safely.

FUNCTIONS:

• Establish and maintain a well-disciplined and orderly classroom learning environment; observe and evaluate students work site performance
• Establish and maintain safety policies and procedures for classrooms and work sites
• Evaluate students performance by assessing needs, testing skills and knowledge, and then communicating results to the student; develop, update, and maintain students training/instructional plans
• Communicate effectively with counselors, administrators, parents, and staff concerning students progress and program needs
• Evaluate, select, develop, and adapt a variety of appropriate instructional materials
• Promote student and communitywide awareness of the CTE program and in obtaining employment
• Maintain a variety of complete and accurate records for necessary reports
• Performs job assignments safely for the purpose of protecting people and property
• Maintain and update professional skills, appropriate industry awareness, and community involvement as it relates to the successful performance, and other required duties as assigned
• Performs other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Credentials and experience:

• Appropriate Career Technical Education or Designated Subjects Credential, or eligibility for appropriate credential
• For verification of eligibility, the following must be submitted with application:
  • Verify three years of work experience directly related to each subject. One year equals 1,000 clock hours.
  • May substitute 48 semester units of postsecondary vocational coursework related to the subject for a maximum of two of the three years of work experience. Additionally, one of the following may be used as one year of work experience toward meeting the three years of required experience:
    • Possession of an advanced industry certificate related to the industry sector to be named on the preliminary credential, as determined by a Commission-approved CTE program sponsor
    • One year of full-time general education teaching experience providing instructional services in preschool or grades K-12 earned in a public or private school of equivalent status
  • At least one year of the required work experience must be within the last five years immediately preceding the issuance of the credential.
