Position Description
Employees in this position are responsible for augmenting a supervising physician's data gathering abilities to reach decisions and institute patient care plans. Provides health care services to patients under the direction and responsibility of a Physician.

Major/Essential Functions
Position Summary continued:
May participate in teaching programs for students and residents. May require travel to participate in educational efforts and special programs that occur outside of normal working hours.
1. Provides primary care as a part of health care team in an ambulatory setting. Assists faculty/residents in performing procedures as needed within the scope of practice.
2. Elicits detailed patient history, examines patient, performs comprehensive physician examination, and compiles patient medical data including health history and results of physical.
3. Work is performed in an outpatient setting and requires a high degree of contact with patients, families and other Emergency Medicine personnel and outside professionals.
4. Develops and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regiments, emotional problems of daily living and health maintenance.
5. Administers/orders diagnostic tests such as x-rays, electrocardiogram and laboratory tests; interprets tests results for deviations from normal.
6. May render emergency medical service without supervision, pending the arrival of a responsible physician, in cases where immediate diagnosis and treatment to avoid disability or death.
7. Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care and managing infection.
8. Writes prescriptions in accordance with approved protocols or scope of practice.
9. Works efficiently in teams and within the PCMH (Patient-Centered Medical Home) model.
10. Ensures Joint Commission and HIPAA compliance and meets all billing regulations and requirements.
11. Knowledge and adheres to institutional and departmental safety policies and procedures; attends mandatory training provided and requested by TTUHSC.
12. Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual. English/Spanish - ACLS/PALS/ATLS certification. Work experience in Emergency Medicine/Urgent Care. TX DPS, DEA certifications.
Position Specific Qualifications: MSN degree from accredited nursing program - current RN license or eligibility in the State of Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the appropriate nursing specialty from approved certification program as recognized by the Texas State Board of Nursing. Recognition by the Texas Board of Nursing as an Advance Practice Nurse (APN).

Required Qualifications
Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association. Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants. OR Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas Board of Nursing. Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer certification to Texas.
