Animal Resources Technician
Job Description
Under general supervision of Comparative Medicine Management and/or staff veterinarians, cares for animals and cleans facilities used in experimental and breeding colonies. CMAR Technicians provide daily husbandry of laboratory animals to include (but not limited to) observation of animals, handling and restraint, feeding and watering, changing cages/racks, and sanitizing animal quarters and equipment for multiple species. Operates and/or use supplies and equipment necessary to perform the husbandry duties.
Provides daily record keeping for animals and room environments in accordance with LBRI quality assurance standards and regulations. Will maintain cleanliness of the cage wash area, warehouse, diet kitchen and any animal equipment storage areas. Outstanding Communication skills and the ability to work harmoniously with team members and all professionals is a must. This is an entry level position that does not require previous animal handling or cleaning experience.
Requires a high school diploma, or equivalent, and one year of demonstrated work experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
Requires professional-level communication skills and the ability to effectively to work independently and as a part of a team.
Must be available to work scheduled shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Work is performed in laboratory and vivarium/animal housing environments. Will frequently stand, sit, walk, kneel, crawl, reach/work overhead, frequently lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 50 pounds, perform repetitive and perform desk-based computer tasks. Will wear personal protective equipment which may include a respirator. Will work in close proximity to research animals and may be required to work in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious agents are present which may require vaccinations.

Salary is commensurate with experience + $500 sign-on bonus.
