Overview

Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute is looking for dedicated full time Animal Resources Technician to work as part of our behavioral management team to assist with general husbandry as well as socialization and acclimation of our laboratory animal colonies. The Animal Resources Technician will work with the behavioral management supervisor and veterinary staff to help to train and condition animals for various study procedures using positive reinforcement techniques. In addition, the Animal Resources Technician will be responsible for socializing and pair housing animals and assessing compatibility in accordance with our institute social housing plan and relevant regulations. The Animal Resources Technician will also assist with general husbandry of laboratory animals, as needed.

Qualifications

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.

Requires strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and as a part of a team.

Requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and other heavy equipment, pushing, bending, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, outdoor work, working in extremes temperature and humidity. Must be able to wear a respirator and protective clothing or equipment. A Post-offer physical and background check/security clearance are required. Ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

Experience working with laboratory animals, including but not limited to dogs, nonhuman primates, and/or swine, is highly desirable.
