Position Summary

Under direction of a Head Athletic Trainer, oversees thephysical evaluation and treatment of student athletes to maintain maximumphysical fitness and participation in athletic competition. Provides support tostudent athletes engaged in high-impact, high-intensity and/or large sports.Mentors, leads and/or supervises lower-level athletic trainers, ensuringquality of care. Provides administrative oversight and support for departmentaloperations, including the development and implementation of departmentpolicies, processes and procedures.

Associate Athletic Trainer:

Will oversee the physical evaluation and treatment of student athletes to maintain maximum physical fitness and participation in athletic competition. Provides support to student athletes engaged in high-impact, high-intensity and/or large sports. Mentors, leads and/or supervises lower-level athletic trainers. Provides administrative oversight and support for departmental operations.

Associate Athletic Trainer Pay Range- $3199.73-$5416.66

Assistant Athletic Trainer:

Will evaluate physical condition and treat student athletes to maintain maximum physical fitness for participation in athletic competition. Prescribes routine and corrective exercises to strengthen muscles; recommends special diets to increase/decrease weight. Treats chronic minor injuries and related disabilities to maintain student athlete performance. May design customized individual training programs.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Leads, mentors, and/or supervises lower-level athletic trainers; ensures quality of care to student athletes and compliance to established standards and requirements.
  • Assists with the administration of athletic training services, to include coordinating billing, maintaining medical files, inventorying supplies and equipment, and scheduling follow-up appointments with medical providers, diagnostic testing, and professional consultations.
  • Performs physical evaluation and treatment services to student athletes in high-impact, high-intensity and/or large sports prone to extensive and/or chronic injury; provides a comprehensive range of care, including operation of therapeutic devices and equipment, first aid application, customized fitness/nutrition/conditioning plans, etc.
  • Serves as a liaison between physicians, administrators, coaches, parents, and student athletes regarding injury prevention, diagnosis, care, management, treatment, rehabilitation and claim submission.
  • Oversees the daily management of training room, including ordering and storage of supplies and equipment.

Conditions of Employment
  • CPR Certified.
  • Compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required in this position.
  • Must maintain State of New Mexico Athletic Trainers Practice Board License.
  • Must maintain certification from National Athletic Training Association Board of Certification.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred Collegiate and/or professional sportathletic training clinical experience.
  • Other certifications such as; but not limited to, National Academy of Sports Medicine Corrective Exercise Specialist, Performance Enhancement Specialist, Certified Dry Needling, CSCS, etc. preferred.

Minimum Qualifications Associate Athletic Trainer:

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Minimum Qualifications Assistant Athletic Trainer:

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
