Job Description

Educational Outreach and Student Services at Arizona State University is seeking a highly skilled and dynamic individual to join our team as an Assistant Director of Digital Content and Social Media. In this leadership position, you will be responsible for leading news writing, editing, social media content curation, and other content marketing efforts on behalf of our team across multiple digital platforms. Your strategic mindset, strong organizational skills, and ability to drive engagement through creative and compelling content will be crucial to your success.

Salary Range

$60,385 - $67,798 per year, DOE

Essential Duties

·        Content Strategy and Planning: Develop and execute a comprehensive content strategy that aligns with our organization's goals and target audiences. This includes identifying key themes, topics, and trends, and developing a content calendar to guide content creation and distribution across various digital platforms.

·        News and Feature Story Writing: Lead the writing and editing of news and feature stories for a variety of digital platforms, including ASU News, ASU Student Life news site, EOSS department websites, and e-newsletters. You will be responsible for producing accurate, well-structured, and engaging news content that informs and engages our audiences (current and prospective students, families, and the larger ASU community). 

·        Digital Content Curation: Use Salesforce Marketing Cloud to design and build e-newsletters and other strategic digital communications to engage our audiences through compelling narratives.

·        Social Media Content Curation: Develop and implement a social media content strategy that drives engagement and expands our online presence. This includes developing and curating highly creative and compelling content for our social media channels like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. 

·        Analytics and Reporting: Monitor and analyze content performance metrics, social media trends, and audience engagement to inform content strategy and optimize performance. 

·        Collaboration and Stakeholder Management: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, communications, design, and multimedia teams, to ensure alignment and integration of content marketing efforts. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand their needs, develop content that meets their objectives, and maintain consistent messaging across platforms.

·        Industry Trends and Best Practices: Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging platforms, and best practices in content marketing and social media. Share insights and recommendations with the team to enhance our content strategies and maintain a competitive edge.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Graphic Design or a related field AND five years of relevant experience which includes three years of supervisory experience; OR,Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

 

Desired Qualifications

·        Excellent Writing and Editing Skills: Writing and editing skills with a demonstrated ability to create compelling and engaging news and feature stories, evidenced by a portfolio of work showcasing your ability to tell compelling stories through written content. A keen eye for detail and adherence to brand guidelines. Excellent grammar, spelling, and punctuation is essential. Proficiency with Associated Press (AP) writing style.

·        Digital Content and Social Media Expertise: Proven ability to develop and implement content marketing and social media content strategies that leverage the power of storytelling to drive engagement and expand our online presence. Proficiency in social media community management, including scheduling, analytics, and monitoring tools. Experience in producing high-quality visual content, including photography and videography a plus. 

·        Digital savviness: Experience working Salesforce Marketing Cloud or a closely related mass email platform to design, create and monitor mass email campaigns; Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Google Drive, and Dropbox shared team drives. Experienced managing website content using a CMS like Drupal; Familiar with Adobe Creative Cloud applications, specifically Photoshop and InDesign a plus.

·        Strategic Thinking: Strong strategic mindset with the ability to develop and execute content strategies that align with organizational goals and target audience preferences. Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing successful content marketing plans, with the ability to translate complex and technical subjects for a general audience.

·        Analytical and Data-Driven: Experience in analyzing data and metrics to track content performance, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.

·        Project Management and Collaborative Leadership Skills: Proven ability to collaborate across a multidisciplinary team of content creators, multimedia developers, and designers. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to foster collaboration, inspire creativity and drive results.

·        Strong service orientation: Disciplined work ethic and commitment to a high standard of excellence; Nimble, and flexible with the ability to adapt to the needs of the organization with ease and creativity.
