Job Description:

Under the leadership of the department director, the assistant director collaborates with the Director of the Outpatient Surgery Center in planning, goal setting, developing department budgets, and coordinating supplies/equipment, staffing, and care/service to carry out the departments responsibilities in an efficient and effective manner in conjunction with and in support of Community Hospitals strategic plan.

The assistant director is responsible and accountable, twenty-four hours a day, for assigned tasks such as supervising the departments operations, including but not limited to, being a resource and role model to staff for problem resolution with issues with patient care, service delivery, safety, supplies, equipment, computer software, and customer concerns.

The assistant direct ensures staff have the appropriate orientation/training and competence for the care/service provided and that all staff adhere to all Exceeding Expectations standards. This is achieved through supportive training, coaching, developing, evaluating staff performance, policy/procedure enforcement, and corrective action, if necessary.

The assistant director plays a major role in supporting quality initiatives through ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, collection and analysis of quality and performance improvement data, assisting with development of future performance improvement targets and quality initiatives, and development or revision of department policies and procedures, as needed.

The assistant director supports financial viability with attention to expenses, revenue, utilization and productivity in assigned cost centers, and tactical execution of Lean concepts.

Direct reports include charge nurses, staff nurses, ancillary and support staff.

Experience:

Must be qualified by education and experience in the care of the perioperative patient.

Must have at least 2 years current experience as a perioperative RN in an acute care hospital operating room or multidisciplinary ambulatory surgery center.

Must demonstrate competence in the formulation of individual perioperative treatment plans and in providing skilled intraoperative nursing care.

Must demonstrate ability to direct, monitor and evaluate nursing care provided by nursing staff.

Previous Charge RN or related management experience is required.

Education:

Bachelors degree required or current enrollment in a formal BSN program or enrollment in courses that can be applied to completion of a formal BSN program within six months of hire. BSN must be completed within five years of hire.

Current knowledge and experience with sterile processing standards and regulations preferred.

Licensure/Certification:

State of CA RN license required.

American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS required.

ACLS certification must be obtained prior to completion of orientation and independent assignment.

CNOR certification is preferred upon hire and required within 30 months of start date.
