Job Description / Essential Elements:

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for assisting the High School Principal in carrying out the functions of administration in the school directed toward the optimal educational and social development of each individual student.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

  • Assure the health, safety and welfare of students.
  • Oversee attendance, behavior management, counseling, guidance and other support services and provides individual academic and personal counseling to students and parents.
  • Direct the evaluation and revision of curriculum and instructional programs.
  • Communicate with teachers to assure instructional programs meet student needs and District requirements.
  • Plan, organize, coordinate and direct instructional activities, extra-curricular events, special programs and school site operations.
  • Direct the implementation of staff development and inservice training, communicate with site and District personnel, and update staff on revised policies and procedures.
  • Direct and participate in planned program of classroom visitations and observations for the evaluation of teaching staff.
  • Enforce applicable State and District codes, policies and regulations and administer District school site discipline policies and safety programs.
  • Supervise, direct or attend numerous student activities and supervise the athletic program and represent the school in league and CIF section affiliations.
  • Attend, conduct and chair a variety of meetings with faculty and parents and communicate, coordinate and meet with site advisory groups.
  • Respond to and resolve parent, student, and staff complaints and conduct student/parent appeals.
  • Plan and direct the business operations at the high school including the development, implementation and supervision of the school budget.
  • Interview, select, direct, evaluate and supervise certificated and classified personnel.
  • Conduct articulation activities with feeder and destination schools.
  • Organize, administer and direct operations of the school site and assure proper management, maintenance and inventory of materials, equipment, buildings and grounds.
  • Direct the preparation and maintenance of a variety of District, county, state and federally mandated records and reports regarding student attendance, welfare, discipline, safety, academic achievement, accreditation and certification.
  • Plan, develop, coordinate and monitor the registration process.
  • Supervise and support particular disciplinary departments.
  • Implement school safety and description program as assigned.
  • Oversee the implementation of the collective bargaining agreements for certificated and classified employees as they relate to personnel supervised.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must posses or be eligible for California Administrative Services credential.
  • Masters Degree.
  • Minimum of three years' of successful full-time experience. This experience may be teaching, pupil personnel work (school psychology, school counseling, etc.), health services or clinical or rehabilitative services.
  • Previous administrative experience preferred.
  • EL Authorization preferred.

Knowledge of:

  • Curriculum development, instructional program delivery strategies and program supervision.
  • Human relations strategies, conflict resolution strategies and team building techniques.
  • Counseling and guidance and discipline techniques.
  • Federal, state and District rules and regulations.
  • Collective bargaining agreements.

License Required:

  • Possession of a valid and appropriate California Drivers License. Insurability by District Liability Insurance Carrier may be required. May be required to provide own transportation to sites during workday.

Ability to:

  • Analyze problems, identify potential solutions and make appropriate and effective decisions.
  • Establish effective organizational and community relationships.
  • Work in a diverse socio-economic and multicultural community.

Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned performance responsibilities, which are essential functions of this job description, are the following essential physical requirements:

  • Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations.
  • Ability to circulate for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to see for purposes of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed matter and observing students.
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
  • Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation.
