Additional Information:
DEFINITION: The Assistant Principal is responsible for administration and supervision of the building unit within the established policies of the Governing Board. Duties include instructional leadership and school improvement, personnel administration and supervision, project management, business management, plant management and supervision of auxiliary services, school community relations, and performing routine duties of administration.
REPORTS TO: School Principal
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

TASKS:
Works with faculty in the development of effective classroom policies and procedures in regards to student discipline, conduct, attendance, and classroom organization; communicates relevant policies and procedures to students; supervises and evaluates classroom instruction as delegated by the Principal; manages the implementation of assessment and data collection; supports and/or facilitates professional learning opportunities; collaborates in the implementation of instructional programs and curriculum as approved by the Governing Board based on Arizona State Standards; assists in the development of an instructional budget; acts as a public advocate for school, District, and public education; assists with ensuring the campus is safe and orderly by providing adequate security; organizing and implement safety drills that include emergency lock-downs, fire drills and evacuations; participates in the selection and training of staff; supervises and evaluates certified, classified, and paraprofessional staff members.
May assist in actively recruiting and retaining coaches and certified Athletic Trainers for school athletic programs; prepares school calendar of events; may assist in developing coaching handbook for parents, student/athletes, coaches, spectators, proper protocol when addressing, parents, staff, community members, and proper protocol for raising / spending club monies; oversees the maintenance and operation of school buildings; notifies Principal of necessary maintenance and inputs work orders; coordinates and oversees afterschool activities or duties; performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledge of education at the appropriate level.
Knowledge of Instruction and Curriculum and Arizona State Standards.
Knowledge of personnel management.
Knowledge of pertinent policies, regulations and/or laws
Skill in written and verbal communication.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Skill in developing and implementing successful policies and procedures.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in an indoor/outdoor environment. Work requires frequent sitting, standing, walking bending, repetitive motion, vision to monitor, and may require some lifting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in Education, Education Leadership or in any other education related field.
Three (3) years of successful teaching experience
Valid Teaching Certificate.
Valid Principal Certificate.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
School leadership experience as assigned by a building principal
Experience in due process and student relations
Knowledge and implementation experience with formative assessment processes
Depending on the needs of the District, some incumbents in this class must be able to demonstrate fluency in both Spanish and English as a condition of employment.
