Major/Essential Functions

• Builds and sustains an independent, externally funded research program
• Embraces the vision of the new Center of Emphasis in Diabetes and Metabolism, engages in the Center's and Department's activities, and interacts with other members of the Center, Department, and Institution in a collegial, team-oriented fashion
• Engages in optional part-time clinical service (up to one day per week)
• Participates in team-taught courses in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and/or Paul L. Foster School of Medicine
• Mentors medical and graduate students in research
• Engages in service to the academic and regional community
• Ensures compliance with all applicable institutional, state and federal policies and procedures, especially those pertaining to research
• Adheres to all institutional and departmental policies and procedures
• Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine's Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility

Preferred Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

• M.D., M.D.-Ph.D., or an equivalent degree
• Successful completion of an ACGME-accredited graduate medical training
• Board-certification by one of the ABMS member boards
• Holds or be eligible for a full unrestricted Texas medical licensure
• Clinical research experience in at least one of the following areas: the study of insulin sensitivity and/or secretion in human subjects; the study of obesity, its causes, co-morbidities in human subjects; the evaluation of new biomarkers, diagnostics and/or therapeutics for diabetes and/or obesity, including clinical trails
• Record of peer-reviewed publications

Preferred Qualifications

• Expertise with performing and interpreting direct measurements of insulin sensitivity in human subjects (euglycemic clamp, intravenous glucose tolerance test or related measurements)
• Experience with interventions to prevent or manage insulin resistance, prediabetes, diabetes, and/or obesity in the pediatric population
• Experience with the diagnosis, staging and management of hepatic steatosis
• Emerging or established regional or national reputation for the ranks of associate professor or higher
