Major/Essential Functions
  • Performs clinical duties to include sign-out responsibilities, grossing, frozen section coverage, night/weekend call duties, performance of bone marrow examinations and fine needle aspirations, autopsies, and presentations at tumor board
  • Management of complex gastrointestinal, pancreas, liver, and biliary tract pathology cases
  • Consulting and collaborative work in gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary cases with clinical colleagues
  • Keeping abreast of progress in the gastrointestinal pathology field to help implementation of diagnostic advancements, enhancing the quality of patient care
  • Participates in teaching activities for medical students, residents, and laboratory staff
  • Participates in research and/or scholarly activities
  • Participates in committees and other administrative duties
  • Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Foster School of Medicine's Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility
  • Adheres to all compliance policies (e.g. HIPAA) and departmental billing regulations
  • Adheres to the institutional and departmental policies and procedures

Preferred Qualifications
  • Successful completion of a fellowship training program in gastrointestinal pathology
  • Two or more years post-residency experience
  • Experience in teaching medical students and residents
  • Regional or emerging national reputation (for the rank of associate professor or higher)

Required Qualifications
  • M.D. or D.O. degree
  • Unrestricted Texas Medical license or eligible for Texas medical licensure
  • Board certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology or Anatomic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology
  • Fellowship training in gastrointestinal pathology or well documented experience in gastrointestinal, pancreas, liver and biliary tract pathology sign-outs
  • Experience in general surgical pathology sign-outs
  • Experience in the interpretation of frozen sections
  • Experience in the performance and interpretation of bone marrows
  • Experience in grossing and in performing autopsies
