Job Description

Grand Canyon Universitys Residence Life department is seeking a part-time, temporary Assistant Resident Director to assist with the direction and coordination of portions of the residence program, focusing largely on administrative tasks. This position will serve as an assistant facilitator in the planning and implementation of a meaningful residence life experience for students and student staff. The position is primarily Monday - Friday working 20 hours per week between the hours of 8am-5pm. Some weekends/evenings may be required. Apartment and meal compensation provided.

Responsibilities:

Residential Learning:

  • Assists with oversight of Resident Assistants in planning, administration and program evaluation.
  • Challenges students to initiate and develop healthy interpersonal relationships with their peers.
  • Supports efforts associated with academic support, spiritual formation, cultural diversity, emotional wellness, and life planning.

Administration & Supervision:

  • Completes training and shows proficiency in department specific software systems.
  • Assists with room assignments and changes throughout the year; assists check-in and check-out process utilizing appropriate software systems.
  • Monitors physical (health and safety) condition of living area, including assisting facility services through monitoring the usage and condition of furniture. Reports known physical damage, facility-related problems, or housekeeping concerns as needed through designated software system.
  • May assist in the selection of new Resident Assistants in the spring, including conducting individual and group interviews.
  • Other special duty assignments.

Mentoring, Coaching, & Role Modeling:

  • Meets with students as assigned by RDs/ supervisors for discussion of concerns and problems. Appropriately refers students to other offices as needed.
  • Provides guidance, support, and direction to Resident Assistants during RA Training and throughout the school year.
  • Maintains an attitude of discipleship and serves as a support and resource to students in their quest for spiritual growth.
  • Models behavior that reflects a commitment to uphold the university standards of conduct in ones own life; on and off campus consistent with the lifestyle expectations of Grand Canyon University students on campus.
  • Meets regularly with supervisor, and RDs to discuss policies, procedures, programs, concerns, resident problems, discipline situations, and personal development issues with students.

Intervention & Accountability

  • Understands and can communicate the rationale for University regulations.
  • Assists, confronts, and intercedes in disciplinary and emergency situations as they arise in the living areas, provides the appropriate written and verbal behavioral data relevant to administering guidance, support, and/or discipline, and reports/refers to the Residence Life Manager and the Director of Residence Life, as necessary.
  • Supports or does not openly disagree with University regulations.
  • Serves as a resource and referral support to faculty, staff, parents, and other University constituents.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree required.
  • 1-2 years of experience in student affairs or other related experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work independently.
  • Presents self in a professional manner and reflects the goals and standards of GCU.
  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the Universitys Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
