Position Description

The Town of Marana is seeking an Assistant Town Attorney or Associate Town Attorney to work in the Legal Department, primarily as a prosecutor for the Town. As a prosecutor for the Town, the ideal candidate must be able to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment, have the ability to work with minimal supervision, have excellent attention to detail and exceptional communication skills (oral and written), and have the ability to establish and maintain working relationships with Town employees, court officials, police officers, attorneys, and the general public.

Hiring Range for Assistant Town Attorney: $84,709 - $99,635.73

Hiring Range for Associate Town Attorney: $78,000 - $88,173


  • placement within the salary range is dependent on direct experience, internal equity and/or budget
Examples of Duties

  • Prosecute misdemeanor criminal offenses in the Town of Marana from inception to resolution; represent state of Arizona at trials and other hearings, including appeals; prepare plea offers; ensure proper implementation of Victims Rights; draft legal motions, appeals and memoranda; and manage prosecution case load.
  • Represent the Town in legal proceedings; prepare legal pleadings; attend court; present arguments; communicate with witnesses and counsel; and negotiate with opposing counsel and parties.
  • Prepare and review legal documents; read and apply knowledge of subject; maintain legal knowledge of issues.
  • Work with Marana Police Department to issue criminal cases and conduct trainings for officers regarding best practices.
Minimum Qualifications

ASSISTANT TOWN ATTORNEY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Juris Doctor degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association
  • Member in good standing of the State Bar of Arizona
  • Three years of legal experience working as an attorney
ASSOCIATE TOWN ATTORNEY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Juris Doctor degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association
  • Member in good standing of the State Bar of Arizona or awaiting results from the Arizona bar examination.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with criminal law, preferably prosecution
  • Trial experience
