LOCATION: Chicago, IL

WORK HOURS: Full Time (based on a 37.5 hour work week)

GRADE: 8

REPORTS TO: Vice President, Health Policy

Position Summary:

The Associate Director of the Healthy Brain Initiative is responsible for (1) providing day-to-day leadership on some of the public health initiatives of the Healthy Brain Initiative (HBI) Cooperative Agreement with the CDC, including workforce development and tribal health partnerships; (2) developing, disseminating, and evaluating communications to and for public health officials in their work to implement HBI Road Map actions; and (3) contributing to the implementation and monitoring of the Cooperative Agreements other strategic priorities. The successful applicant will manage projects from start to finish and will collaborate across the Association and with select external partners. This individual will also contribute to the provision of education and technical support to stakeholders, plan and conduct external events, and represent the Association, as directed, in national collaborations related to HBI projects.

This position reports to the Vice President, Health Policy with a dotted line relationship to the Director, Healthy Brain Initiative and is based in Chicago, IL with up to 15% travel.


Responsibilities:

  • Using knowledge of and experience in public health, lead and/or assist in development, implementation, and evaluation of various projects of the National Healthy Brain Initiative (HBI) Cooperative Agreement with the CDC, including with respect to:
    • Workforce development, such as updating, adapting, and expanding the Alzheimers disease public health curriculum; and
    • Building and advancing tribal health partnerships.
  • Generate new and update or enhance existing communications and technical tools (including improvements to the online HBI Resource Center) to assist public health officials in implementing actions of the HBI Road Maps and other HBI activities.
  • Accurately and clearly synthesize complex and diverse information related to the HBI priorities for communications to target audiences, application in public health practice, and evaluation and performance improvement.
  • Apply health equity principles in all assigned responsibilities and assist in the development of an equity pipeline, the purpose of which is to develop and test policy/system/environmental change initiatives related to Road Map actions. Also, oversee pilot projects of the models from the pipeline.
  • Manage day-to-day interactions with one or more HBI contractors and with designated national partners.
  • Manage logistics and communications associated with in-person or virtual events, such as meetings, teleconferences, and webinars.
  • Identify and resolve problems in a timely and effective manner, identify opportunities to improve the impact of the HBI, and contribute to long-term strategic planning for the cooperative agreement.
  • Present on behalf of the HBI department at national conferences and at meetings, and represent the Association in select external partnerships.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in public health or related field required; masters degree preferred
  • Minimum 5-7 years of progressive, professional experience in the public health field
  • Strong preference for certification as a health education specialist
  • Multiple years of experience advancing health equity with an entrepreneurial spirit

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of public health practice, including health education.
  • Ability to translate concepts into pragmatic actions and deliver capacity-building support to external audiences.
  • Proficiency in using multiple communications platforms to advance organizational priorities.
  • Superior written and oral communications skills, including representing an organization with confidence and polish and applying marketing principles.
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills.
  • Track record of effective project management, including in periods of high-work volumes and tight deadlines.
  • Team-player with demonstrated ability in customer service and interpersonal relations.
  • Knowledge of and experience with applying health equity frameworks in public health practice.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed for the job
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 15%
