Position Summary

The University of New Mexico is seeking a dynamic and experienced Associate Director of Facility Support Services to lead and manage internal operations within the Facility Services division. This strategic leadership position is responsible for overseeing administrative infrastructure, financial planning, human resources coordination, safety compliance, and internal communications. The goal is to ensure efficient service delivery and alignment with the Universitys institutional goals.

The Facility Services division-comprising Building &Landscape Services, Facilities Design & Construction, Facilities CustomerServices, and Technical Services-is responsible for maintaining more than10 million square feet of facilities and 680 acres of open space. The AssociateDirector will ensure an integrated administrative support model that adheres toinstitutional standards, promotes operational excellence, and supportsstrategic priorities across the division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate internal support functions, including Facilities Safety, Human Resources, Finance, Strategic Initiatives, Capital/Renewal Planning, and Communications.
  • Oversee facility renewal and assessment programs, including data analysis, reporting, and project prioritization.
  • Collaborate with Facility Services teams to assess system needs and incorporate findings into long-term strategic planning.
  • Manage capital project approval workflows and ensure timely documentation for board and regulatory review.
  • Provide strategic financial oversight-budgeting, compliance, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Supervise HR processes in coordination with the Senior HR Administrator, ensuring adherence to labor laws and University policies.
  • Foster a proactive, safety-first culture in partnership with Facilities Safety leadership.
  • Develop and implement internal communications strategies to promote transparency, engagement, and alignment across departments.
  • Supervise and mentor assigned managers and staff, fostering a high-performance culture focused on innovation and continuous improvement.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Extensive experience managing operations within a complex facilities services environment, preferably in higher education.
  • Proven expertise in financial analysis, strategic planning, and driving operational improvements.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities across diverse functions.
  • Proficiency in computerized systems used in finance, human resources, and facilities operations.
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience managing multiple large-scale or complex projects concurrently.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and assess strategic and operational initiatives.
