TITLE:

Associate, Instructional English Learner (EL)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate's degree (A.A.), 60 college credits from an accredited institution or a passing score from an approved academic assessment in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics.

REPORTS TO:

Program Coordinator / Principal

JOB GOAL:

To help ensure English Learner (EL) students attain English language proficiency and meet state academic standards by providing effective language instruction that meet students unique needs.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Adheres to local, state, and federal guidelines and timelines pertaining to English Language Education for Children in Public Schools which include student identification, assessment, and instruction.
  2. Implements instructional programs designed to help EL students achieve both English language proficiency and academic standards in reading, writing, language arts, mathematics, and science.
  3. Instructs EL students in groups or individually, with lesson assignments, reinforcing learning concepts.
  4. Maintains EL student progress for the purpose of assisting EL students in improving English proficiency and academic achievement.
  5. Consults with teachers, administrators and colleagues as may be required (e.g. selecting materials to be used, implementing lesson plans) regarding EL English proficiency and academic achievement.
  6. Supports EL students by addressing concerns related to EL students such as special information, special learning needs, cultural appreciation, etc. for the purpose of receiving and/or conveying information regarding EL English proficiency and academic achievement.
  7. Provides EL support by identifying students eligible for English proficiency testing based on the Primary Home Language Other Than English (PHLOTE) survey.
  8. Provides El support by administering assessments as needed for the purpose of assisting EL students in improving English proficiency and academic achievement.
  9. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

  1. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.

  3. Ability to work with a variety of people and maintain the confidentiality of information.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:

  1. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet and District software; and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, and other appropriate technology software).
  2. Knowledge of appropriate business machines and telephones.
  3. Monitor special system(s), not limited to, including security and fire alarm systems.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. Ten-month, employee pay, and benefits in accordance with Board policy.
  2. FLSA: Non-Exempt
  3. Part Time Employee Benefits in accordance with Board policy.

EVALUATION:

  1. Performance to be evaluated in accordance with the Board policy on evaluation of support personnel.
