Job Description

Grand Canyon University is currently seeking an Associate/Sr. Associate Athletic Director (DOE), Student-Athlete Development. Reporting to the Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director for Administration, this position will be responsible for leading the day-to-day operations for academic support services for 21 intercollegiate athletic programs and student-athlete programming. This individual also maintains a liaison relationship with various University units to facilitate student academic progress at the University as well as Western Athletic Conference/NCAA requirements.

As the manager for the Office of Student-Athlete Development, the individual will be the representing body for athletics with academic staff and departments across campus. The position requires a high level of communication, development/execution of academic procedures, relationship building, and follow through with a variety of departments throughout GCUs campus. The Associate/Sr. Associate Athletic Director will also be the academic recruiting liaison for official/unofficial visits; Assist in transcript evaluations with Compliance; assist in coordinating student development efforts including Orientation, Summer Bridge, and UNV-107: University Success for Student-Athletes. The position requires the adherence to all rules and regulations of the NCAA, Western Athletic Conference, and Grand Canyon University. The position is full-time with benefits. Candidate must be willing to travel, work nights, and weekends, as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage Academic Coordinators, Academic Mentors, Student Workers, and other assigned personnel
  • Find, hire, train, manage, assign, track appointments for academic mentors.
  • Provide intensive academic support with assigned teams and/or student-athletes.
  • Work one-on-one to develop and implement learning strategies and effective study skills within the framework of the students academic and athletic time demands.
  • Monitor academic performance, prepare and implement individualized plans for at-risk student athletes, and ensure student-athletes meet institutional and NCAA eligibility requirements
  • Coordinate with the Compliance Office the eligibility certification process.
  • APR Data Collection/Entry.
  • Serve as primary academic advisor for select programs
  • Initiate and maintain contact with the Office of Admissions and Academic Records concerning the admission status of prospective student-athletes of assigned sports.
  • Maintain a liaison relationship with the Registrars Office, Admissions Office, Counseling Center, Multi-Cultural Office, and academic departments to facilitate student progress at the University.
  • Oversee student-athlete development programming
  • Maintain and operate the book purchase process
  • Supervision of the OSAD Center and contact with campus technology
  • Preparation and distribution of student-athlete handbook
  • Serve on university and NCAA committees as directed
  • Maintain and schedule facilities, provides reporting to head coaches for all study hall weekly.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree from a regionally accredited institution required.
  • Minimum of two years experience in academic advising or instruction preferably at university level.
  • An equivalent combination of work experience and education may be substituted, upon hiring managers approval.
  • Must pass background investigations.
  • Must have valid Drivers license with clean driving record.
  • Must work outside of normal business hours, evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Must travel, including overnight travel as needed
